Despite being a box office bomb, The Misfits is charting on Netflix. The 2021 film stars Pierce Brosnan, Nick Cannon, Tim Roth, and Jamie Chung. It follows a group of criminals who join forces to steal hidden gold bars beneath a prison. The movie has faced controversy due to its anti-Qatar themes, as well as being a financial disappointment, only earning $1.6 million against its $15 million budget.
Netflix has released their list of the Top 10 Movies in the U.S. for the week of October 16 to October 22. The contentious film, The Misfits, has made it onto the list since its arrival on Netflix this month. Taking the No. 6 spot, it falls between the newer Netflix originals, The Devil on Trial at No. 5 and Reptile at No. 7.
Pierce Brosnan's Career Hasn't Yet Recovered From The Misfits
The movie not only failed financially and caused controversy, but it also received poor critical reception. Currently, it has a dangerously low score of 17% on Rotten Tomatoes. Nick Cannon, the star of The Misfits, was even nominated for a Razzie for his performance, along with two other nominations for Worst Screenplay and Worst Director.
Furthermore, The Misfits marked a downward trend for Pierce Brosnan on Rotten Tomatoes. Since its release, he has not had a single positively reviewed movie on the platform. His current streak of seven movies with low ratings includes The Misfits, False Positive (47%), Cinderella (42%), Riverdance: The Animated Adventure (57%), The King's Daughter (21%), Black Adam (38%), and The Out-Laws (37%). Despite the majority of these being streaming releases, both of the other theatrical releases also performed poorly, with The King's Daughter only earning $2.2 million out of its $40 million budget, and Black Adam failing to make a profit despite earning $393 million at the box office.
Pierce Brosnan has faced similar criticism in the past, but he has managed to bounce back. He experienced a nine-movie slump between 2013 and 2016, but was able to redeem himself with successful films like The Foreigner and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. It is hopeful that one of his upcoming projects will help him break free from the disappointing streak that started with The Misfits.
