Former 007 Pierce Brosnan shared his thoughts on who could be the next James Bond during the Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles. The actor, who is 70 years old, mentioned that Cillian Murphy would be a great choice to take on the role. Brosnan said that Murphy would do a fantastic job as the iconic secret agent.

Murphy, who is 47 years old, was also at the event celebrating Irish artists. However, he had a different view from Brosnan. He mentioned to Variety that he feels "a bit old for that."

Brosnan, known for portraying the famous secret agent in four movies from 1995 to 2002, has shifted his opinion since the last time he was asked about who should succeed Daniel Craig.

"I don't care who should do it," he said in a 2022 interview with GQ. "It'll be interesting to see who they choose, who the man will be. Whoever it is, I wish him the best."

Brosnan admitted that he watched "the last one," referring to No Time To Die in 2021. "And I also saw Skyfall. I really enjoyed Skyfall," he said. "But I'm not too sure about the last one."

Bond producer Barbara Broccoli recently mentioned that the filmmakers are not looking at any actors to replace Daniel Craig until his time with the franchise is completely finished. Craig, who is 56 years old, has portrayed the iconic role for 15 years, starting with Casino Royale in 2006.

In a 2020 interview with Variety, Broccoli expressed her view on the character of James Bond. She stated that Bond can be portrayed by actors of any race, but he must always be male. Broccoli emphasized her belief in the importance of creating new, strong female characters instead of simply gender-swapping existing male roles. She finds women to be more fascinating and deserving of original, empowering characters.

Rumors have been circulating about potential candidates for the next James Bond. Among the names mentioned are Murphy, Regé-Jean Page, Daniel Kaluuya, Sam Heughan, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Richard Madden, Jack Lowden, Barry Keoghan, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Tom Hardy.

Henry Cavill, who expressed interest in the role in a 2019 interview with Men’s Health, mentioned that he would find it "very, very exciting" to play Bond.

Brosnan believed that Tom Hardy, aged 46, would be a great fit for the role before Daniel Craig took over. In 2018, the Mamma Mia actor shared his thoughts with the Daily Mail, stating, "I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond. I’d be happy to see him do it." According to Brosnan, the key to playing Bond is having an actor who can bring a bit of charm and charisma to the character.
