Aston Villa is currently engaged in advanced discussions with Villarreal for the potential acquisition of centre-back, Pau Torres.
Unai Emery, returning to his former club, has initiated negotiations to bring the 26-year-old player to the Premier League. The deal is expected to cost Villa approximately £45m.
Torres possesses a release clause amounting to €70m (£60.4m). However, Villa has managed to negotiate a payment structure that allows them to pay over an extended period, resulting in an initial payment that is lower than the designated release amount. The completion of the deal, anticipated within the next 48 hours, will see Torres undergo a medical examination and comfortably agree to the terms of his personal contract.
Torres's affiliation with Villarreal spans 21 years, starting from his days in the club's academy to ultimately making his breakthrough into the first team. Notably, he played an instrumental role in the side's triumphant campaign in the 2021 Europa League under the guidance of Emery.

With one year left on his current contract, the center-back featured in 39 games for Villarreal in the previous season. Furthermore, he was also a member of the Spanish team that reached the round of 16 in the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar. Unai Emery, who recently returned to the Premier League, has expressed a strong interest in Torres. Emery believes that the defender's addition to the squad can elevate its performance, solidifying their place in European football competitions.
