Pau Torres: Aston Villa Close to Securing Spain Defender in Exciting Transfer Talks with Villarreal

Aston Villa is engaged in advanced negotiations with Villarreal for the acquisition of centre-back Pau Torres. Unai Emery, returning to his previous club, intends to bring the 26-year-old to the Premier League in a deal estimated to be around £45m.

Torres' release clause stands at €70m (£60.4m). However, Villa has reportedly come to an agreement allowing them to pay in installments over a longer duration, ensuring their initial payment is below the release amount.

Once the deal is completed, anticipated within the next 48 hours, Torres will proceed with a medical examination and finalize personal terms, with no foreseen obstacles in this regard.

Torres has been affiliated with Villarreal for 21 years, progressing through the club's academy before establishing himself in the senior squad. He played a crucial role in the team's triumph in the Europa League in 2021, guided by Emery.

With one year left on his current contract, the centre-back featured in 39 games for Villarreal last season. He also represented Spain in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, reaching the round of 16.
