Onimusha Unleashes Its Legendary Powers in a Thrilling Anime Adaptation – Coming Soon to Netflix!

Prepare for an exhilarating adventure as Capcom's timeless video game, Onimusha, slashes its way to Netflix! Acclaimed director Takashi Miike helms the thrilling anime adaptation, immersing viewers in a mesmerizing world of samurai battles and supernatural forces

Capcom's popular video game franchise, Onimusha, is making its way to Netflix in an exciting new anime directed by renowned filmmaker Takashi Miike. Premiering globally on November 2, the series combines historical Japanese tales with supernatural elements, captivating audiences worldwide.

Conceived and developed by video game icon Yoshiki Okamoto, Onimusha was initially envisioned as a spin-off resembling Resident Evil. However, it soon established its unique and engaging storyline, distinct from its inspiration. Prepare yourself for a thrilling and intense experience by watching the intense and action-packed trailer below.

The main character is different in each Onimusha installment, but they usually share similar motives and aesthetics: being skilled swordsmen embarking on missions to defeat demons and formidable enemies during the declining years of Japan's feudal Sengoku period. In every game, the protagonist possesses the ability to absorb Genma souls from vanquished foes. These souls not only restore their health but also enhance their weapons and armor, as well as grant power to their elemental attacks using special weapons.

In the Netflix adaptation, the main character takes the form of Miyamoto Musashi, who is inspired by the late Japanese screen legend Toshiro Mifune. The story is set during the later Edo Period. Renowned Japanese voice actor Akio Otsuka lends his voice to Musashi, having previously worked on projects such as the Ghost in the Shell series and the acclaimed Tokyo Godfathers. Additionally, Otsuka provided the voice for the main antagonist, Nobunaga Oda, in the first three games of the series.

The Onimusha series has globally sold a total of 8.6 million units, placing it as Capcom's ninth highest-selling franchise. It stands behind Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, Dead Rising, Marvel vs. Capcom, and Ace Attorney.
