The enigmatic and formidable D family holds a prominent status within the world of One Piece, with individuals bearing the distinctive letter D in their names. These individuals are regarded as adversaries of the gods, hence the scarcity of knowledge surrounding their origins.
Renowned for their penchant for chaos, members of the D family have left an indelible mark on the world. Several noteworthy characters from the One Piece universe potentially share this illustrious lineage.
6 Eustass Kid
Eustass Kid, the captain of the Kid Pirates and a member of the Worst Generation, hails from North Blue where he endured a challenging upbringing. This has granted him a harsh awareness of the world's cruelty. Kid has developed into an unrelenting individual who prioritizes his own interests over others' well-being. He thrives on taking risks and recognizes that the most valuable things in life are not easily obtained.
Having set his sights on becoming the King of the Pirates, Kid possesses Conqueror's Haki, a testament to his ambitious goal. His impressive mental fortitude is evident in his refusal to succumb to Kaido's torment. The Sabaody Archipelago arc revealed that Kid, along with Law and Luffy, stood apart from the rest of the Supernovas. Given Law and Luffy's affiliation with the D family, it would be unusual for Kid not to possess the infamous letter in his name.
5 Whitebeard
Known as the "Strongest Man in the World," Whitebeard was a former member of the Rocks Pirates in his early pirate days. Following the God Valley incident, the crew disbanded, leading Whitebeard to establish the renowned Whitebeard Pirates, solidifying his status as one of history's most legendary pirates.
Despite possessing an overwhelming amount of power capable of obliterating entire islands, Whitebeard chose not to exercise it in such a destructive manner. Regarded as the individual closest to uncovering the secrets of One Piece after the death of Roger, he lacked the desire to claim it for himself. Additionally, Whitebeard possessed knowledge of the enigmatic Will of D and singlehandedly brought an entire era to a close. His involvement in numerous pivotal events exemplified a common trait among individuals of the D family.
4 Kozuki Oden
Kozuki Oden, the greatest warrior Wano has ever seen, yearned for a life of freedom and adventure, exploring the vast oceans. However, his lack of navigation skills held him back from setting sail from his homeland. Fortunately, fate intervened when the Whitebeard Pirates found themselves shipwrecked in Wano.
Oden joined forces with the Whitebeard Pirates for a period before eventually choosing to embark on a journey with Roger. Together, they unraveled the mysteries of the Void Century and the enigmatic Will of D. Interestingly, Oden's ancestors were the ones who crafted the Poneglyphs, indicating a strong likelihood of their affiliation with the famed D family. As Oden is their descendant, it is almost certain that he shares some connections with this notorious lineage.
3 Shanks
Shanks, a character in One Piece, holds incredible power and is widely considered as one of the strongest. He achieved the title of Emperor at a young age, a record only surpassed by Luffy later on. Notably, Shanks boasts excellent relationships with both fellow pirates and the Marines. Remarkably, he managed to infiltrate Marijoa undetected and was even granted an audience with the esteemed Five Elders.
Shanks has played a pivotal role in some of the most significant events worldwide. He orchestrated the theft of the highly coveted Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, a Devil Fruit that the World Government had desperately sought after. Additionally, Shanks brought an end to the intense Summit War. Given his involvement in these notable incidents, it is unquestionable that he is descended from a legendary lineage.
2 Sabo
Sabo, the chief of staff of the Revolutionary Army, shares a deep bond with Ace and Luffy since their childhood. Together, they have embarked on numerous thrilling adventures. Both Ace and Luffy are esteemed members of the D family and have accomplished remarkable feats throughout their lives.
Similarly, Sabo harbors profound aspirations and a strong desire for freedom. His immense strength further contributes to the World Government's perception of him as a significant menace. With qualities resembling those commonly associated with individuals bearing the D name, Sabo's status as one of them is a possibility.
1 Buggy
Buggy, leader of the Cross Guild and one of the Four Emperors, began his seafaring journey as an apprentice on Gol D. Roger's crew. Despite his cowardice, he held deep respect for his captain and willingly faced danger on numerous occasions. Following Roger's execution, Buggy declined an invitation from Shanks to join his crew and instead formed his own, gaining recognition in East Blue.
Although often being overwhelmed by those more powerful, Buggy harbors his own ambitions. In recent manga events, even after being defeated by Mihawk and Crocodile, he revealed his desire to become the Pirate King. Given Oda's penchant for surprises, it would be imprudent to dismiss this possibility.
