Monkey D. Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and a member of the Worst Generation, embarked on his journey to become the Pirate King when he was just 14 years old. Throughout his adventures, Luffy has achieved numerous remarkable feats, including defeating some of the most notorious pirates in One Piece, which has earned him a renowned reputation. However, none of his previous accomplishments compare to the monumental task he faced in Wano. The homeland of the samurai suffered immense destruction at the hands of Kaido and his formidable army. In his quest for dominance, Kaido killed Kozuki Oden and mercilessly executed anyone who dared to resist him.
This tragic event occurred two decades prior to the current timeline, plunging the samurai country into a state of perpetual fear. Little did they know that their lives would be forever changed with the arrival of Luffy on the shores of Wano. However, Luffy did not immediately journey to the country. Initially, he and his crew landed on Punk Hazard, where they encountered Kin'emon and Momonosuke. Additionally, Luffy crossed paths with Law, who was plotting to overthrow Doflamingo and ultimately bring down Kaido. Seeing their shared objectives, they joined forces in an alliance aimed at toppling the fearsome Beast King.
Luffy's New Haki Power Ups In Wano
The journey that unfolded across various One Piece story arcs, namely Dressrosa, Zou, Whole Cake Island, and Wano, was an extensive one. Throughout this challenging voyage, Luffy emerged triumphant over formidable adversaries such as Donquixote Doflamingo, Charlotte Cracker, and Charlotte Katakuri. While all these opponents possessed notable strength, they paled in comparison to the indomitable might of Kaido. Luffy's initial encounter with the Yonko resulted in a resounding defeat and profound humiliation, serving as a crucial reminder that he was leagues below Kaido's level and needed to strive for improvement.
After enduring a brutal beating, Luffy found himself incarcerated in the formidable Udon prison, where the captors aimed to shatter his indomitable spirit. Within the confines of this prison, a fateful encounter with Hyogoro proved transformative as he imparted the wisdom of harnessing the elusive technique called Advanced Armament Haki, known as Ryou in the realm of Wano. Empowered by this extraordinary form of Haki, Luffy gained the ability to dismantle his adversaries from within. Demonstrating his newfound mastery, Luffy not only liberated himself but also freed his fellow inmates from the shackles of explosive collars. This remarkable advancement in his Haki proficiency proved instrumental in his epic showdown against the mighty Kaido.
The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika
When Luffy confronted the Yonko once again, his mastery of Ryou posed a challenge for his opponent. However, it proved insufficient to bring down Kaido. Luffy soon realized that Kaido not only utilized Advanced Busoshoku Haki but also infused his attacks with Haoshoku Haki, augmenting their already formidable power. As the battle progressed, Luffy grasped how Kaido seamlessly integrated these two Haki techniques into his strikes. Once Luffy fully comprehended and harnessed their synergy, his blows became even deadlier, capable of inflicting substantial damage on the Yonko. Witnessing Luffy's improvement brought a grin to Kaido's face as he recognized that this young pirate had the potential to offer him the most thrilling fight of his life.Just as things seemed to be going well for Luffy, Guernica unexpectedly stepped in, causing a major distraction for the pirate at a crucial moment and resulting in his defeat. This interference angered Kaido, leading him to launch an attack on the CP0 agent. Confident in his victory, Kaido believed that he would continue to rule over Wano. Little did he know, the blow that incapacitated Luffy would turn out to be a hidden blessing. It allowed Nika to seize control of his body and unleash the true power of the Devil Fruit.
The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika is a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that grants Luffy the ability to harness the power of the Sun God. Upon awakening, Luffy's appearance underwent a transformation. His hair and eyebrows turned white, and his clothing changed accordingly. Luffy named this form Gear 5, which enhanced his combat capabilities and bestowed him with increased agility. In this state, Luffy grew to immense proportions, effortlessly clutching Kaido's body. Interestingly, Luffy's power also altered the environment, rendering it malleable like rubber. This manipulation of his surroundings allowed Luffy to redirect Kaido's Boro Breath attack back at him, leaving the Yonko bewildered by this unprecedented display of power.
Gear 5 proved to be an almost invincible force, but it had a prominent weakness – stamina consumption. Luffy appeared visibly fatigued at certain intervals while using Gear 5. This suggested that maintaining this form demanded substantial amounts of energy, a reasonable outcome considering Luffy spontaneously awakened this power. Unlike his other Gears, which he had tirelessly trained for years to perfect and eradicate their drawbacks, Luffy had yet to master Gear 5. As both Luffy and Kaido reached their physical limits, they understood the urgency to conclude the battle before one of them succumbed to exhaustion.
Luffy utilized the power of Gear 5 to form an enormous fist that overshadowed the entire Onigashima island. By infusing it with Haki, he circumvented his adversary's defenses. Simultaneously, Kaido summoned an immense flame dragon that surpassed him in size. The intense heat radiating from Kaido's attack possessed the ability to liquefy anything in its path. Upon the clash of the two assaults, Luffy's Bajrung Gun propelled Kaido into the depths of Wano, ultimately bringing an end to his reign. Hence, Luffy required the assistance of both Haki power-ups and a Devil Fruit Awakening to emerge victorious against Kaido.
