Olivia Munn shared her experience of concealing her double mastectomy scars while fighting breast cancer. She revealed that she has some indentations and uneven areas on one side of her body where the lymph nodes were removed. In an interview with People on April 20, the 43-year-old actress mentioned feeling self-conscious while wearing certain dresses on the red carpet.

Munn was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2023 and underwent a double mastectomy a month later as the first of three surgeries. Despite facing challenges, she eventually had a reconstruction surgery and had to find ways to adjust during her recovery.

During red carpet events, like the 81st Academy Awards in March, Munn's makeup artist Diane Buzzetta learned how to apply tattoo-type makeup to help Munn look her best. Munn attended the Oscars with her partner, comedian John Mulaney, who was presenting at the ceremony. Together, they have a son named Malcolm, who is 2 years old. Munn wowed in a stunning metallic Fendi Couture halter gown paired with Bucherer Fine Jewellery diamond earrings at the Oscars, just three days before publicly revealing her diagnosis.

Munn shared that when it comes to her Oscars gown, the goal is to hide any dents and make it look smooth so she can feel comfortable wearing it. She mentioned that she can't do it alone, but having the option to fix it before being in front of the camera gives her peace of mind. Additionally, the support from people in her life helps her see the imperfections as not a big deal, which makes her feel good.

In addition to the makeup tricks, Munn grew out her hair to better hide her scars as well.

Sometimes when I glance in the mirror, I notice how long my hair has grown and I attribute it to certain experiences," she shared. "Occasionally, it saddens me that I still feel the need to conceal certain parts of myself. However, I remind myself that these are like battle scars - I can display them proudly or keep them hidden as I please.

In addition, she shared, "I don't criticize myself for any emotions I experience each day; I simply allow myself to feel them. There's a sense of tranquility that accompanies this approach."

Adapting to her new body was tough for Munn, but she expressed gratitude for being able to battle her illness. She mentioned feeling content with her appearance now, saying, "I'm really happy with whatever it is I look like now."

She acknowledged that the reconstruction process made a difference, although not the same as before. Munn emphasized that she was thankful for the choice to undergo a double mastectomy. She felt fortunate to have the opportunity to fight her illness, recognizing that not everyone in her situation has that chance.

Munn shared her breast cancer diagnosis on Instagram recently, almost a year after she first found out about it. She kept it private initially to deal with the tough moments, like her double mastectomy. She described the sudden shift from feeling fine to waking up in a hospital bed after a long surgery.

During that time, she expressed gratitude to her loved ones for supporting her through the journey and gave a special mention to Mulaney, 41.

I am incredibly grateful for the time he dedicated to researching all the details of my treatments and medications, including the potential side effects and recovery process. Before each surgery, he was by my side, from the moment I went in to when I woke up. He always made sure that the first thing I saw upon opening my eyes was a photo of our son, Malcolm.
