John Mulaney and Olivia Munn's Unbelievably Awkward Encounter with Mom: This Story Will Leave You Speechless!

John Mulaney has formed a unique bond with Kim Munn, the mother of his girlfriend Olivia Munn.

"We spend time together from morning till night," the 41-year-old comedian joked on the October 12 episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. "When we had our baby, she stayed with us for a period of time, along with Olivia's stepdad. It was incredible how quickly we became close friends."

Mulaney and Kim, aged 68, developed a nightly routine of watching “one to two Korean period pieces” on TV. Although Kim is from Vietnam, Mulaney mentioned that she has a fondness for Korean foreign language films. One evening, they stumbled upon a 2016 film called The Handmaiden by Park Chan-wook, which took them by surprise due to its provocative content.

Recalling the experience to host Stephen Colbert, Mulaney shared, “I was sitting on the couch with the delightful Miss Kim, and we came across this Korean film called The Handmaiden. It is set in the early 20th century and revolves around a book collector and a kept woman. As we were watching the film, it fit perfectly with our interests: Korea, old-fashioned, simply ideal. However, Stephen, it evolved into the most explicitly sexual and erotic movie. I genuinely thought, ‘Ah, so this is what people mean when they say erotic.’”

While Mulaney humorously claimed that he had limitations regarding the details he could disclose about the same-sex relationship depicted onscreen due to CBS' strict guidelines, he acknowledged that it was especially uncomfortable for him to view it alongside his partner's mother.

John Mulaney and Olivia Munn found themselves under the same blanket, catching the attention of Olivia's mom who jokingly remarked, "I think they might be a little bit lesbian, don't you think?"

Mulaney and Kim's discomfort intensified upon reaching the film's explicit oral sex scene, which was described as being "off-the-charts."

As they watched the scene together, Mulaney noticed Kim staring at him and she candidly remarked, "We all have hormones, don't we? What are your thoughts?"

In May 2021, we announced Mulaney's relationship with Olivia, who is now 43, after his separation from his ex-wife Anna Marie Tendler. Six months later, they celebrated the arrival of their first baby, son Malcolm.

Interestingly, Olivia is not fond of watching Korean movies with Mulaney and her mother. Mulaney shared with Colbert, 59, that Olivia decided not to partake after discovering his extensive catalog titled "Movies to Watch With Miss Kim."

“She [said], ‘This is more effort than you put into any of our date nights,’” Mulaney joked.
