O.J. Simpson passed away on Wednesday, April 10, still owing Ron Goldman’s family over $100 million. Despite being acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Goldman in 1995, Simpson was later found liable in civil court for more than $33 million for the crimes.
Fred Goldman's attorney, David Cook, revealed to Daily Mail on April 11 that the Goldman family is still trying to recover the payments owed to them. Cook mentioned that O.J. Simpson's debt, including interest, has now exceeded $100 million. The attorney stated his intention to begin the collection process from Simpson's estate.
"We're going to start working on that. There might be assets we can go after," Cook shared with the outlet. "We've been dealing with this issue for quite a while now. It's possible that the money is tied up in a trust, probate, or it may have been spent."
Cook mentioned that he and his team of Nevada attorneys are in the early stages of locating the money owed to the Goldman family. The family has been waiting for years to receive their payout from Simpson, who has faced financial difficulties over the years.
The initial ruling resulted in Simpson selling off a large amount of his sports memorabilia to try to pay the Goldmans. In 2007, a bankruptcy court decision granted the Goldman family ownership of Simpson's book detailing a hypothetical account of how the murders of Ron and Nicole may have occurred if Simpson was the perpetrator.
The Goldmans made revisions to the book and reissued it with the title: If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer.
After learning about Simpson's passing, Fred emphasized Ron in a statement to We magazine on April 11. He expressed, "Today serves as a poignant reminder of how long Ron has been absent from our lives, and how much we continue to miss him." Fred continued, "It is crucial to remember that the true focus today should be on the victims."

The passing of O.J. Simpson brings to light the ongoing legal battle between his estate and the Goldman family, who have been seeking compensation for over two decades. Despite being acquitted of murder charges in 1995, Simpson was found liable in civil court and ordered to pay $33 million in damages. However, the family has yet to receive the full amount, which has now accumulated to over $100 million with interest. It remains unclear whether the Goldman family will be able to recover the money, as Simpson's financial situation has been strained in recent years.
The article highlights the complexities of the civil justice system and the challenges faced by victims in seeking financial restitution. While Simpson was acquitted in criminal court, the civil court held him accountable for his actions, recognizing the harm inflicted upon the Goldman family. However, the inability to fully enforce the judgment raises questions about the effectiveness of the legal system in providing justice for victims of violent crimes. The ongoing pursuit of compensation by the Goldman family serves as a reminder of the lasting repercussions of such tragedies and the need for comprehensive legal remedies for victims.
