Nintendo Switch Set to Remove Twitch App in the Near Future

Twitch recently announced the removal of their app from Nintendo Switch, but what caught everyone's attention was their misspelling of the word Nintendo in their official statement Stay tuned for more updates on this surprising development

The official Twitch app will no longer be available on the Nintendo Switch. Twitch has announced its removal from the eShop, scheduled for November 6. Users who currently have the app installed will be able to continue using it until support is terminated for everyone on January 31, 2024.

In a statement, Twitch suggested that viewers watch Twitch on their browser, mobile phone, or other devices, rather than on the Nintendo Switch. This poses an inconvenience to those who were enjoying Twitch on the gaming console.

The Twitch app on the Switch, launched in 2021, lacked features such as broadcasting, subscribing to creators, sending Bits, security and privacy settings, and using Whispers. However, users were able to browse and watch live content, as well as video-on-demand programming through the app.

Twitch did not provide a specific reason for removing its app from the Switch. In a statement to The Verge, the company described it as a "difficult decision" but expressed appreciation for the support received from the Switch community and Twitch streamers, while acknowledging Nintendo as a valued partner.

The Twitch apps for Xbox and PlayStation consoles will continue to be available and unaffected.

According to reports, Nintendo is currently in the process of developing their next console, with a potential release date in 2024. It appears that developers are already creating games for this upcoming console.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan, I am disappointed by the news that the Twitch app will be removed from the Nintendo Switch. I understand that the app had some limitations, but it was still a convenient way to watch my favorite streamers while playing games on my Switch. I hope that Nintendo and Twitch can work together to bring the app back in the future, with more features and functionality.

In the meantime, I will have to find other ways to watch Twitch on my Switch. I might try using the web browser, but I'm not sure how well that will work. I might also try using my phone or tablet, but that's not always convenient. I'm hoping that Nintendo will come up with a good solution for Switch users who want to watch Twitch.
