Nicole Kidman in AMC commercial. YouTube/AMC Theatres
In a setting like this, heartbreak somehow feels right — and it will feel even better wearing Nicole Kidman’s iconic pinstriped suit from the famous AMC ad.
A fortunate fan will have the opportunity to own the outfit as it has been donated to Sotheby’s luxury auction house for their “Visions of America” series. The suit is set to be auctioned later this month, with an expected price range of $5,000 to $10,000.
Kidman, 56, famously wore the gray wool and cashmere suit in a viral pre-movie ad for AMC Theatres. The suit featured a sparkly pinstripe detail and was part of Michael Kors’ 40th-anniversary fall/winter 2021 collection. After the ad's release in 2021, the commercial became an internet sensation due to the Australian actress's dramatic monologue about the experience of moviegoing.
In the clip, Kidman approaches an AMC multiplex and begins, "We come to this place for magic. We come to AMC Theatres to love, to cry, to care, because we need that, all of us. That indescribable feeling we get when the lights begin to dim and we go somewhere we've never been before."
The advertisement has garnered widespread attention on the internet, leading to numerous memes and inspiring numerous Halloween costumes based on Kidman’s iconic look. In 2022, Saturday Night Live featured a parody of the ad with cast member Chloe Fineman portraying Kidman.
Nicole Kidman appeared in a commercial for AMC Theatres. Her husband, country singer Keith Urban, expressed surprise at the commercial's unexpected cultural impact. Urban shared on the podcast "Talking Junkies" that Kidman loves movies and wanted to support theaters during tough times.
AMC approached Kidman to do the commercial and she quickly accepted, never expecting it to become such a cultural phenomenon. The screenwriter, Billy Ray, has announced that a sequel is in the works, with Kidman set to reprise her role. Ray expressed excitement about the project and emphasized that they won't try to outdo the original ad.

Ray revealed that Kidman personally requested him to write the original ad as a favor. "When Nicole first approached me, I agreed to do it for free out of my admiration and friendship for her," he explained. However, his agent persuaded him to reconsider writing the script for no compensation. "No one anticipated the ad going viral," Ray commented.
