Nicole Kidman confirms 'Big Little Lies' season 3 is in the works, exciting fans after a four-year wait for the hit show's return

Nicole Kidman revealed that Big Little Lies season 3 will be happening more than four years after season 2 premiered on HBO. Speaking at a Q&A session during an event in Florida, Kidman expressed her love for the show and how it came into her life at a significant time when she thought she was going to retire. She mentioned that both her and Reese Witherspoon were able to produce and create the show, and thanks to the overwhelming support from viewers, a third season is in the works.

Big Little Lies depicted the lives of numerous affluent mothers residing in Monterey, California. However, it soon became apparent that behind their seemingly flawless façades, a contrasting narrative unfolded in private. The series featured the remarkable performances of Kidman, Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley. The initial season garnered significant acclaim in 2017, and Meryl Streep later joined the cast for the subsequent installment two years later.

Rumors of a third season have died down over the years. Kidman sounded less sure in 2021 during an interview with “Andy Cohen Live” on SiriusXM.

The cast of 'Big Little Lies' - Laura Dern, Nicole Kidman, Zoe Kravitz, Reese Witherspoon, and Shailene Woodley - attended The 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 7, 2018. According to the Oscar winner, they are all very good friends and have discussed the idea of working together again. They enjoy being around each other and appreciate the opportunity to collaborate on a successful show like 'Big Little Lies.' Although it is not currently planned, they would like to reunite in the future.

Kravitz had previously expressed uncertainty about the possibility of a third installment following director Jean-Marc Vallée's untimely demise at age 58 in December 2021 due to a heart attack.

When asked about the potential for a season 3 in an interview with GQ in November 2022, Kravitz stated, "I don't think it is. We discussed the idea of a Season 3 extensively. Sadly, our extraordinary director, Jean-Marc Vallée, passed away last year. It is devastating, and I cannot fathom continuing the show without him. He was truly the visionary behind it. Regrettably, it is now concluded."

HBO has not made any official announcements about a third season of Big Little Lies.
