Ever since Suits made its debut on Netflix, it has been the most-watched series for months. However, a new series has now taken over its spot, proving to be a worthy opponent. The 2011 legal drama reached new heights when it became part of the Netflix lineup, maintaining its popularity and leaving fans eager for a potential Season 9 or a cast reunion.
As fate would have it, the grip on stardom began to loosen. After Netflix debuted its popular series in 2023, fans shifted their attention to The Fall of the House Usher or re-engaged with Virgin River. However, a new addition to Netflix has now taken the spotlight from Suits. Can this series achieve the same overwhelming success with a new streaming platform?
Suits outshined by popular yet new to Netflix series
Young Sheldon has switched homes from CBS to Netflix and has risen the ranks to receive the number one spot in viewership over Suits.
In a licensing blitz for 2023, Netflix obtained the rights to the first five seasons of Young Sheldon, a popular spinoff of The Big Bang Theory that delves into the childhood of genius Sheldon Cooper and his family in Texas. It was later announced that Netflix would also premiere the finale seventh season of the series. Originally a hit on CBS, the show has gained a new following on Netflix, where both new and dedicated fans have been eagerly binge-watching the series, leading to its immense success.
According to Nielson’s Top 10 (as reported via Yahoo), Young Sheldon has claimed the top spot as the most-watched series, jumping from fourth place to first with 1.8 billion viewing minutes. Suits follows with 628 million viewing hours. Squid Game: The Challenge closely trails behind in second place. It appears that the legal team in Suits has been surpassed by the brilliance of young Sheldon Cooper. With the upcoming premiere of Young Sheldon Season 6 in early 2024, these numbers are likely to continue to climb.
Young Sheldon is set to end with Season 7, which you can read more about here, and check out our other coverage below:
Editor's P/S
As a hard fan of Suits, I feel a mix of emotions upon learning that it has been dethroned by Young Sheldon as Netflix's most-watched show. On one hand, I am disappointed that Suits, which has captivated audiences for years with its intriguing legal cases and complex character dynamics, has lost its top spot. The show's engaging storytelling and talented cast have made it a beloved favorite among fans, and it's sad to see its reign come to an end.
On the other hand, I am also intrigued by the rise of Young Sheldon and its ability to capture the attention of viewers. The prequel series to The Big Bang Theory offers a unique perspective on the childhood of the beloved character Sheldon Cooper, exploring his family dynamics and intellectual development. The show's heartwarming and humorous moments have resonated with audiences, and it's commendable that it has managed to surpass Suits in viewership.
