The Success of Sweet Home and All of Us Are Dead
Netflix’s Sweet Home has proved that All of Us Are Dead season 2 can work even though most of the webtoon has already been covered. Among the many shows like Sweet Home is All of Us Are Dead, a Korean series whose first season premiered in January 2022. The story about a group of high schoolers trying to survive a zombie outbreak at their school was based on a webtoon by Joo Dong-geun, with All of Us Are Dead season 2 already confirmed.

After a three-year wait, Sweet Home season 2 was released on the streaming platform, bringing several new characters and going beyond the original webtoon by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-chan. As expected, Sweet Home season 2 was a lot different from the source material, simply because there was very little left to be covered. Both Sweet Home and All of Us Are Dead are among the best Korean shows on Netflix.

All Of Us Are Dead Season 2 Is Set To Be An Original Story
All of Us Are Dead season 1 covered the entirety of the webtoon, meaning season 2 will essentially be an original story. This is exactly what happened to Sweet Home, whose first season adapted all of the webtoon it is based on. Now without the source material to rely on, Sweet Home season 2 told a brand new story that featured most of the previous characters but also introduced new names. Sweet Home season 2 expanded the world of the show, adding a new group of survivors and a side plot about the military. Despite deviating a lot from the source material, Sweet Home proves adaptations can go beyond the original story.
Whether Sweet Home’s new season was as good as the first one is open for debate, but the fact is that the show found a way to tell an exciting story that did not exist in the webtoon. This is the same challenge faced by All of Us Are Dead season 2, as the first season ended exactly where the original comics did – the city was bombed, but most of the main characters survived. While All of Us Are Dead did not necessarily ask for a second season, there are more than enough elements from season 1 that can be explored whenever the show returns.
All Of Us Are Dead Season 2’s Military Story Could Be Similar To Sweet Home’s
All of Us Are Dead and Sweet Home are quite similar shows in terms of premise and tone. The first season of both series took place mainly in one location and followed a group of survivors as they navigated a zombie/monster outbreak. The success of both shows comes from how audiences grew attached to the characters who were experiencing very singular conditions, which is virtually impossible to replicate in a sequel series. All of Us Are Dead ended with the school, and the entire city, being destroyed, just like the Green Home was destroyed at the end of Sweet Home season 1.
For All of Us Are Dead season 2 to work, it will have to go beyond the original characters, perhaps focusing on the wider impact of the zombie outbreak through the eyes of the military. This is the route Sweet Home season 2 went it, with a lot of the new characters being military people or scientists. Sweet Home also introduced new types of monsters, which All of Us Are Dead can explore by focusing on the “half-bites” from season 1. All of Us Are Dead season 2 may be very different from the show’s premiere season, but Sweet Home just showed that it can work.
