The data presented in Netflix's What We Watched report highlights the significant amount of time that subscribers spent watching movies and TV shows on the platform.
In December 2023, Netflix introduced the What We Watched report, which will be released twice a year, providing insights into viewing habits from January to June and July to December.
The report hones in on three key metrics: hours watched, global availability, and release date. Any movie or TV show on Netflix that accumulates over 50,000 hours of viewing time is eligible for inclusion.
The inaugural edition of What We Watched is now available – and the total viewing time logged by subscribers (and their viewing choices) might be unexpected.
Netflix’s What We Watched report reveals jaw-dropping viewing data
According to the report, The Night Agent topped the list as the most-watched Netflix show, accumulating a staggering 812,100,000 hours. Following closely behind in the top three were Ginny & Georgia Season 2 with 665,100,000 hours and The Glory Season 1 with 622,800,000 hours.

The rest of the Netflix What We Watched report’s Top 10 breaks down as follows:
The Night Agent Season 1 (812,100,000 hours)
Ginny & Georgia Season 2 (665,100,000 hours)
The Glory Season 1 (622,800,000 hours)
Wednesday Season 1 (507,700,000 hours)
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (503,000,000 hours)
You Season 4 (440,600,000 hours)
La Reina del Sur Season 3 (429,600,000 hours)
Outer Banks Season 3 (402,500,000 hours)
Ginny & Georgia Season 1 (302,100,000 hours)
Season 1 of FUBAR has garnered 266,200,000 hours of viewership. The surprise top rank of The Night Agent may be unexpected due to its mediocre reviews and limited cultural impact. On the other hand, Wednesday and Queen Charlotte both make the Top 5, buoyed by their dedicated fanbases.
Where are The Crown and The Sandman on Netflix’s report?
The addition of You Season 4 was expected, given the success of the psychological thriller since its premiere in 2018. In March 2023, it was confirmed that the show would be renewed for a final season. However, the more surprising Top 10 placement went to FUBAR, which can likely be attributed to Arnold Schwarzenegger's involvement.
Netflix's report also unveiled the shows that did not receive as many views as expected despite their popularity. For example, The Crown's Season 5, despite being highly anticipated, only ranked at 159th with 76.3 million hours viewed. Other unexpected low-ranking series include The Sandman Season 1 at 247th with 56.7 million hours, and The Witcher's top-rated Season 1 only reaching 171st place with 72.2 million hours viewed.

As a Gen Z netizen, I find Netflix's What We Watched report both fascinating and thought-provoking. It's incredible to see the sheer amount of time people have spent streaming movies and TV shows on the platform, with some titles accumulating billions of hours of watch time. The report also highlights the diverse tastes of Netflix subscribers, with a wide range of genres and formats represented in the top 10 list.
However, I can't help but feel a bit disappointed by the low rankings of some critically acclaimed shows like The Crown and The Sandman. It seems that popularity and cultural impact don't always translate into high viewership numbers. Nevertheless, I appreciate Netflix's transparency in sharing this data and look forward to seeing how viewing habits evolve in the future.
