Netflix revealed a new teaser trailer on Wednesday, announcing the development of a brand-new anime based on Capcom's Devil May Cry videogame franchise. The trailer was part of Netflix's "Drop One" unveiling, offering a glimpse into several upcoming anime titles, including the highly anticipated Castlevania: Nocturne.

Unlike the Drop One preview trailer unveiled the previous Thursday, Devil May Cry was not featured. However, it was evident that Capcom has a role in one of the numerous titles scheduled to debut on Netflix.

No production or broadcast information is available at this stage. However, the teaser trailer revealed that the new Devil May Cry anime is produced by Capcom and Studio MIR, the Korean animation studio known for their work on the anime adaptation of Tae Joon Park's LOOKISM. Adi Shankar, the executive producer of Castlevania, is credited as the creator of this upcoming Devil May Cry anime. This announcement comes years after Shankar revealed on Instagram in October 2018 that he is collaborating with an iconic Japanese gaming company to create an anime adaptation of one of their iconic video game series for Netflix.

In November of the same year, Shankar confirmed that the series would be Devil May Cry. Over the following years, he provided small details about the project. The anime is expected to have a total of five seasons, with the first season consisting of eight episodes. There is also a possibility of a crossover with Castlevania during its run. In an interview with IGN Japan, Shankar confirmed that the main characters of the series will be Dante and Vergil. The scripts for the first season were created in collaboration with writer Alex Larsen (Yasuke). Shankar had the opportunity to work alongside veteran Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who has worked on Devil May Cry and Resident Evil games, as well as the Devil May Cry anime adaptation produced by Madhouse.

Devil May Cry, an action-adventure franchise created by Hideki Kamiya, has produced multiple games since its debut title in August 2001. The series revolves around Dante, a demon hunter who combats demonic invasions. The original game was followed by sequels released in 2003, 2005, 2008, and most recently in 2020. Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening (2005) is widely regarded as one of the greatest games of all time. Additionally, the franchise has inspired various manga, comics, and novels, and an original anime series consisting of 12 episodes aired from June to September 2007.
