Netflix movie sparks controversy with controversial incest scene, according to viewers

Fans of Netflix's latest family-friendly movie, Family Switch, have taken to social media to express their concerns about a particular scene that some viewers have labeled as disturbingly incestuous Despite the film's popularity, this controversial moment has sparked a heated debate among viewers

Netflix recently unveiled a new family-friendly film just in time for the holiday season. Although the movie, "May December," has quickly risen to the top 10 chart, some fans are expressing concerns about a scene that they perceive as depicting "incest." The film stars Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore as a married couple who are forced to confront their past after a Hollywood actress from their history reemerges.

May December has achieved an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 92% from critics, thanks to its well-written script and esteemed cast. However, while audiences have given it a 79% rating, some are expressing concerns about the disturbing moments in the film, particularly a shocking "trauma response" scene. Surprisingly, despite being a lighthearted, family-friendly comedy, the movie contains a scene that has left many viewers feeling just as unsettled as they would in an adult romance-drama directed by Todd Haynes.

Netflix viewers slam “incest” scene in Family Switch

Family Switch revolves around a unique occurrence where a family members swap bodies with one another due to an unusual planetary alignment. It's a modern take on the classic concept seen in Freaky Friday, but this time it's the parents, Jess (played by Jennifer Garner) and Bill (portrayed by Ed Helms), who switch with their kids, CC (played by Emma Myers) and Wyatt (portrayed by Brady Noon).

Hilarious hijinks ensue, except for one scene in which sister and brother CC and Wyatt, while in their parents’ bodies, are urged to kiss in front of Jess and Bill’s friends, who have grown suspicious.

The inclusion of a non-intimate kiss in Family Switch has received negative feedback. Comments on social media expressed disapproval, with one user stating that the incestuous element was unnecessary, while another was caught off guard by it. A third commenter questioned how the implied incest advanced the plot and criticized the movie for being marketed as family-friendly. Additionally, a fourth viewer expressed discomfort with the odd kiss between the siblings in Family Switch.

Another person added their opinion, saying, "Family Switch hits a new low for body-swap comedies as it shamelessly borrows from its predecessors. However, at least they didn't resort to making incest jokes… or did they? Just kidding! They're definitely there. Gotcha!"

The movie is not universally despised, as evidenced by this individual's comment: "It's not a masterpiece and lacks holiday spirit, but it's enjoyable family-friendly entertainment. There's even a funny fart joke featuring Jennifer Garner."

One viewer commented, "I was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable this family Christmas movie was. I found myself laughing out loud several times, and even though the story is familiar, it was presented in a unique and enjoyable manner. It's the perfect feel-good movie for the holiday season." Editor's P/S

As a passionate fan of family-friendly movies, I have mixed feelings about the controversial scene in "Family Switch." On the one hand, I understand that the filmmakers were trying to create a humorous moment by having the siblings kiss while in their parents' bodies. On the other hand, I can see how some viewers might find the scene disturbing or even incestuous.

I think it's important to remember that this is a lighthearted comedy, and the filmmakers were not trying to promote incest. However, I also think it's important to be sensitive to the fact that some viewers might find the scene uncomfortable.

Overall, I enjoyed "Family Switch" and found it to be a fun and entertaining film. However, I think the filmmakers could have handled the controversial scene more sensitively.
