Netflix may revive one of HBO's finest shows following its cancellation

Netflix to rescue HBO's beloved series Warrior from cancellation; fans rejoice as the martial arts epic finds a new home, promising an exciting future

HBO's hit show "Warrior" has been discontinued, but there is hope for its revival through a potential deal with Netflix. The martial arts series, based on an original idea by Bruce Lee and produced by his daughter Shannon Lee, initially premiered on Cinemax in 2019.

The high-octane action series takes place in 1870s San Francisco during the Tong Wars, and follows martial arts expert Ah Samm as he tries to find his missing sister. Originally airing for two seasons on Cinemax, the show moved to HBO Max for Season 3, which premiered in June. It's unclear whether this will be the final season of Warrior.

Netflix could save one of HBO’s best shows after cancelation

Warrior has been officially canceled by Max (formerly HBO Max). However, the battle is not finished, as Netflix has acquired the rights to stream Seasons 1-3 in 2024. This sets the stage for potential new episodes if the series performs well.

Warrior is a show that refuses to die," creator Jonathan Tropper told Deadline. "Despite changes in platforms and leadership, the writers, producers, cast, crew, and our stunt team continued to create something powerful, relevant, and incredibly unique. Thanks to Netflix, we’re thrilled that millions more viewers around the world will discover it."

Shannon Lee also stated: "With Bruce Lee as our inspiration, our spirit is unyielding! My hope is that the vast global Netflix audience adores Warrior, leading to greater recognition for our talented cast and crew, a passionate fanbase for this impactful show, and maybe even the chance to continue our story for our amazing fans, who thanks to Netflix, will continue to grow in numbers and enthusiasm!"

The only potential problem could arise from contracts, since the cast of Warrior have been released from their current contracts, requiring Netflix to renegotiate with the actors. Regardless, the first three seasons of Warrior are scheduled to premiere on Netflix in February 2024.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan, I am thrilled about the possibility of Netflix reviving HBO's "Warrior." The show's cancellation was a huge disappointment, and I'm glad that there's a chance for it to continue. The martial arts action, compelling characters, and rich historical setting make "Warrior" a truly unique and captivating series. I believe that Netflix's global reach and large subscriber base could introduce the show to a wider audience and give it the recognition it deserves.

I'm also excited about the potential for new episodes if the series performs well on Netflix. The show's creators and cast have expressed their passion for the project, and I'm confident that they would deliver more high-quality content if given the opportunity. The fact that Netflix has acquired the rights to stream Seasons 1-3 in 2024 suggests that they see potential in the series and are willing to invest in it. Overall, I'm optimistic about the future of "Warrior" on Netflix and can't wait to see what the future holds for this incredible show.
