John Wick: Chapter 4 star Natalia Tena has proposed a unique spinoff idea for the action franchise. The franchise, which features Keanu Reeves as the titular action hero, has garnered over $1 billion in total gross from its four films, as it follows Reeves' character's return to the complex and ornate underground world of assassins. Tena portrays Katia, Wick's adoptive sister and a member of the Ruska Roma crime syndicate, in Chapter 4.
In a recent conversation with ComicBook, Tena suggested an unconventional spinoff that could bring together various members of the John Wick cast. Tena expressed interest in a John Wick holiday special, given the diverse personalities of the Ruska Roma, including Katia and John Wick's adoptive mother, The Director (Anjelica Huston). Tena stated, "I think it'd be interesting to see what a family Christmas would be like." See her full quote below:
In my opinion, they likely have numerous bases throughout Europe, particularly in Romania and Eastern Europe. It's possible they have a few bases in Berlin, perhaps one in Spain, and a significant presence in America. The exact relationship between Katia and John Wick remains unclear - is she his niece, cousin, or second cousin? One can only imagine what a family gathering with all these Roma people would be like, particularly during the holiday season. Perhaps they last saw each other at an unusual family reunion, a baptism, or a funeral.
A John Wick Holiday Special? It's not the craziest idea out there.
At first glance, the idea of a John Wick holiday special may seem like an unlikely concept. This is especially true when considering the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978, which creator George Lucas has tried to erase from existence. However, recent movie franchises have been more open to embracing surprise holiday-themed outings. Examples of this include A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas and A Bad Moms Christmas, both of which are comedies and therefore more suited to a holiday theme.
The potential John Wick holiday special could follow in the footsteps of the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. With several holiday-themed specials such as The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, the Halloween-themed Werewolf by Night, and the Christmas-set Hawkeye, it's clear that holiday specials have proven to be a lucrative route for the franchise.
What's even more exciting is that John Wick: Chapter 4 is not the end of the franchise. With several spinoffs waiting in the wings, including the Ana de Armas-starring Ballerina movie and The Continental series, there are endless possibilities for the story that Tena has pitched. Huston's reprisal of her role in Ballerina only adds to the potential avenues for the franchise.
