Modern Warfare 3 will feature numerous maps for standard multiplayer, as confirmed by a recent Call of Duty blog post. The post introduces the "Carry Forward" program, which will bring back some of Modern Warfare 2's maps from 2022 as post-launch content.
On November 10, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released, offering remastered versions of all 16 maps from 2009's Modern Warfare 2. Activision had previously stated that both new and remastered maps would be released as seasonal content after the game's launch. The new blog post now reveals that in addition to the already-announced DLC maps, selected maps from last year's Modern Warfare 2 will be included as well.
The first batch of maps available upon release will be Farm 18, Mercado, and Shoot House. These maps will be featured in a dedicated playlist, with more maps from 2022 being added in later seasons. It's important to note that these maps will retain their original graphics from Modern Warfare 2, but they won't be accessible for the new modes introduced in Modern Warfare 3. Furthermore, the blog post acknowledges that the gameplay experience on these maps might be different due to the innovative movement and overall gameplay mechanics introduced in Modern Warfare 3.
The transfer of last year's maps to Modern Warfare 3 is part of Call of Duty's Carry Forward program. This program allows players to carry over most items from Modern Warfare 2 to Modern Warfare 3, such as weapons, camos, vehicle skins, and operator bundles.
If you preordered a digital copy, you can start playing the campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 2, eight days before the official launch on November 10. Don't forget to explore all the information we have about Modern Warfare 3, including campaign details, Zombies, and more.
