Kim Kardashian responded to a customer's assertion that Skims played a vital role in her survival during a shooting incident.
"My life was saved by Kim Kardashian. On New Year's Eve, I was shot four times. During the incident, I was wearing a SKIMS shaping bodysuit underneath my dress," explained Angelina Wiley in multiple TikTok videos. "The bodysuit was so snug that it prevented me from bleeding out. I highly recommend it and plan to purchase more. It's like a protective shield for women."
In Kansas City, Missouri, Wiley was shot earlier this year while waiting for a Lyft, according to a report from CBS affiliate KCTV5. The incident occurred on New Year's Day, and the police arrived at the scene during the early morning hours to assist Wiley in receiving medical treatment for her life-threatening injuries.
Following the incident, Wiley took to her social media platform to express her gratitude towards Kardashian, 42, for establishing her shapewear company. Although the fan did not specify which Skims body suit she was wearing at the time of the shooting, Skims offers a wide variety of bodysuits, including catsuits and bodysuits, with prices ranging from $68 to $128.
Kardashian responded by reposting the video on Instagram Stories on Sunday, July 16. Alongside the praying hands emoji, the reality star wrote, "Wowww."
Initially, Kardashian founded her company in 2019 with the name Kimono. However, following criticism for cultural appropriation, she decided to change the name to Skims before the launch. Since then, Skims has expanded its offerings to include shapewear, dresses, loungewear, swimsuits, and accessories.
The Hulu personality recently pondered the lasting impact of her company, revealing to Time in June, "It all began with the quest for shapewear in my exact skin tone. I would resort to dyeing my shapewear in the bathtub using tea bags and coffee."

Kardashian announced that Skims generated $500 million in revenue in 2022, surpassing her expectations. Despite her success, she admits to still experiencing imposter syndrome, which motivates her to continue. As for modeling for her own brand, she acknowledges that there may come a time, possibly in her 50s, when she no longer desires to pose in underwear. Nevertheless, she remains determined to do whatever it takes to maintain a youthful appearance and never give up.
Skims has previously partnered with top celebrities such as Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Candice Swanepoel, Alessandra Ambrosio, Simona Tabasco, Bea Grannò, Brooke Shields, Juliette Lewis, and many others for their acclaimed product campaigns.
