Version 4.0 of Genshin Impact focused on introducing new characters, but the first Fontaine update will bring back some previous characters. Yelan, who first debuted in Version 2.7, returned in the first half of Version 4.0. The second half of the update will also see the return of two of the game's oldest five-star characters, Zhongli and Tartaglia, with Tartaglia playing a significant role in Fontaine's story. In Version 4.2, Genshin Impact will re-run characters from three different regions. A reliable Genshin Impact leaker, Tao, confirmed that three five-star characters, namely Kamisato Ayato, Baizhu, and Cyno, will receive re-runs in Version 4.2. Additionally, Furina, the Hydro Archon, will be introduced as a new five-star character. Unfortunately, the leak did not disclose the specific order of the gacha banners for the Version 4.2 update.

In addition to presenting a new lineup of characters, leaks have given players a glimpse into the exciting expansion of Genshin Impact's upcoming region. Version 4.1 is strongly rumored to unveil Fontaine's Fortress of Meropide prison, with future updates anticipated to introduce the Fontaine Research Institute and another intriguing "Dungeon" area.
