Combat in Destiny 2 can yield unexpected rewards, as one player discovered when a brief encounter with a fallen Dreg resulted in a tripled loot drop. The importance of the relationship between combat and loot cannot be understated in a looter shooter game like Destiny 2, and overall, the game strikes a good balance between the two. However, as is common with any complex game, unexpected events can occur, sometimes greatly benefiting the player, as was the case here.
Since its initial release in August 2017, Destiny 2 has undergone significant changes in all aspects. The game truly made a name for itself in the live-service environment with the introduction of the Shadowkeep expansion in 2019. Following Shadowkeep, Destiny 2 has seen the release of three full-scale expansions, although not all of them have been met with the same level of success. Throughout this period, the game's stability has remained largely intact, until the launch of Lightfall. Unfortunately, this expansion brought about server stability issues, bugs, and glitches that made the game nearly unplayable for a significant portion of the player base. While Bungie has made efforts to address many of these issues, the player's stroke of luck serves as a reminder that there is still work to be done.
A Redditor and Destiny 2 player named WIDTL shared a video on the social media site showcasing their lucky gameplay. The video begins with WIDTL entering the Cistern zone of Nessus, which has gained popularity due to Destiny 2's new fishing activity. WIDTL initially struggles to choose their preferred weapon before charging towards a group of fallen enemies. The fallen foes put up little resistance and are swiftly defeated, but not without the last Dreg unexpectedly dropping three reward chests. The sight is quite amusing as the chests initially stack on top of each other before toppling to the ground. WIDTL loots all three chests, but only receives a meager sum of 900 Glimmer.
As anticipated, this unexpected turn of events surprises WIDTL during regular gameplay, as indicated by the title of their post. Many players have commented on how others will now flock to Nessus in hopes of encountering the fortunate Dreg. Some players have jokingly dubbed the enemy "Greg the Dreg," referencing an unkillable Dreg from Destiny's past. In the comment section, other players have pointed out that this amusing encounter highlights the need for developers to address significant issues in Destiny 2 to avoid future problems.
Bugs and glitches can frustrate both players and developers, however, WIDTL's interactions demonstrate that glitches can sometimes be entertaining and whimsical. Despite this, Bungie has assured that Destiny 2 will undergo frequent patches and server updates, with significant efforts focused on Season of the Deep's mid-season patch.
Presently, Destiny 2 is accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
