Melissa Rivers Reflects on the 2024 Golden Globes Red Carpet: Honest and Unfiltered Thoughts (Exclusive)

Melissa Rivers candidly reviews the fashion choices of A-list celebrities at the 2024 Golden Globes in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly Get her unfiltered thoughts on the red carpet looks!

Discussing the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet exclusively with We at our New York City studio, Melissa Rivers expressed her desire for more from the event. "I thought it was fine," the 55-year-old said. "It was good, but there were a lot of specific trends that kept repeating themselves... corsetry, black, silver, red, and a lot of see-through and sheer - maybe on some people who should not be trying this trend."

Rivers has a rich tradition of expressing her straightforward fashion views, which she inherited from her mother, the late Joan Rivers, who famously hosted Fashion Police until her passing in 2014 at 81.

“I thought it was okay,” Melissa restated. “There wasn't anything that made me think, 'I want to wear that.'”

Despite the event being a bore for Melissa, there were a few outfits that really stood out to her. She specifically raved about Helen Mirren's stunning purple Dolce & Gabbana gown and cape, admiring her ability to effortlessly wear such a elegant dress. Melissa also praised Angela Bassett, calling her effortlessly glamorous in a velvet off-the-shoulder Dolce & Gabbana gown that cascaded in a train behind her. She even remarked that Bassett always looks like a true Hollywood queen whenever she arrives.

Melissa also admired Taylor Swift’s vibrant green Gucci dress, which she felt added a pop of color to the red carpet. "In a sea of mostly black outfits, she stood out in green. Love the green," Melissa commented, using Swift's dress as an example of proper tailoring. "No one's tops fit right. It's obviously a trend, but it was all a bit too much boob. Their chests were all pushed up and the cups were too small. I can't handle it when someone's dress makes me nervous. All that tape was working overtime last night!"

Melissa then gushed over Jennifer Lawrence's Christian Dior dress. While she found the look a bit "boring," she believed the dress exuded timeless elegance and could potentially hint at what viewers can expect for the rest of awards season.

“I love simplicity,” Melissa said. “You saw this very clean hair [look]. None of that beachy stuff. No wet hair, and very important jewels.”

When asked about her late mother's potential thoughts, Melissa stated, "I believe she would have desired more. Even for the ones that were classy. More, more, more - and maybe, on a few, a little bit less."
