Melissa Rivers and her boyfriend of nearly two years, Steve Mitchel, are engaged, according to confirmation received.
"Melissa Rivers is excited to share the news of her engagement to Steve Mitchel, her partner for a year and a half," stated a representative for the 55-year-old TV host. "Steve proposed during their recent trip to Mexico, on a picturesque beach. The couple is currently relishing their engaged status and experiencing pure happiness."
Rivers encountered the lawyer at a Didi Hirsch Mental Health and Suicide Prevention event, as reported by People. (Rivers currently serves on the organization's board.)
In the past, Rivers was wedded to John Endicott, and they have a 22-year-old son named Cooper. However, their marriage ended in 2003. Following their divorce, Rivers made a firm declaration to never engage in matrimony again.
Rivers had relationships with Jason Zimmerman and Mark Rousso before meeting Mitchel. While marriage was not in her plans, she briefly considered the idea of expanding her family through adoption.
However, Rivers faced concerns from others about the difficulties she may encounter. Being over 50 and single, she believed she could handle it but now questions if it would truly be fair to a child. During an episode of the "Behind the Velvet Rope" podcast in April 2022, Rivers admitted her change of heart, stating that she is not completely ruling it out but has reservations about taking on the responsibility. She contemplates the idea of adopting a child with special needs, but wonders if that would also be fair.
She continued by saying, "It's important to self-reflect and prioritize the needs of others ahead of your own or someone else's desires. Do I still have a strong desire for it? Absolutely. But now I'm unsure if it's the right thing to do. Trust me, I've spent many nights crying over this realization."
Although Rivers has temporarily set aside her aspirations of adoption, she wholeheartedly supports Cooper in his pursuits. "I used to be an assistant coach for my son's fourth-grade football team, and now I'm proudly a lacrosse mom," she jokingly shared with Us in April 2022.
Melissa rose to fame as one of the cohosts of Fashion Police alongside her late mother, Joan Rivers. Joan died in September 2014 at the age of 81.
