Melissa Rivers was disappointed by the lack of formal attire in menswear at the 2024 Oscars.
In an exclusive interview with We on Sunday, March 10, Rivers, who is 56 years old, expressed her frustration by saying, "Just wear a tie. It's the Oscars. I understand that we all want to be trendy and think we can pull it off. But really, you can't."
Melissa, the daughter of the late comedian and former Fashion Police host Joan Rivers, jokingly remarked, “I wish my mom was here to just slap some sense into all of them and tell them to put on their tie. … Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling should have known better. I just wasn't a fan of the whole thing.” However, Melissa gave a “pass” to Robert Downey Jr. because “he knew he was going to win.”
According to Melissa, “No one wants to take a risk on that night because the photo of you holding your Oscar is the one they use for your obituary.”
Melissa thought the red carpet fashion was impressive, except for the men. Her favorite looks of the night included Emma Stone‘s mint peplum Louis Vuitton dress, Anya Taylor-Joy in a Dior Haute Couture gown, Zendaya’s Armani design, Margot Robbie’s structured Versace frock, and more.

Melissa McCarthy, 35 years old, looked stunning at the event. She wore a "spectacular" Louis Vuitton diamond necklace and had flawless soft glam makeup. Melissa was praised for owning her dress and being the front runner the whole time. Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Robert Downey Jr. were also at the event, as seen in the photos by Kevin Mazur, Mike Coppola, and Arturo Holmes/Getty Images.
When it came to Melissa’s least favorite looks, Becky G was at the top of her list.

Melissa joked about Emma Stone, Zendaya, and Anya Taylor-Joy's outfits at the event. She humorously commented, "I feel like she got the red carpets confused with another one she was at last week." Melissa continued, "I feel like someone made a mistake and said, 'Oh crap, that was next week's dress.' Wrong award show. She didn't get the memo."
Becky, who is 27 years old, looked stunning in a Vera Wang outfit. Her ensemble included a sheer bedazzled corset top paired with a silky black skirt. To complete her look, she wore fingerless gloves and black pumps.
Melissa did not like Ariana Grande’s poofy pink Giambattista Valli outfit either. According to Melissa, Ariana "went for a big fashion moment" but it did not work well. Melissa felt that there was too much pink and the sleeves were too big.
Melissa didn't find any looks on the red carpet that were truly amazing, but she also didn't see any that made her gasp in disbelief. She felt that no one played it too safe, but at the same time, no one took big risks either. "I think everyone was trying to make a statement, but no one really stood out," she shared with Us magazine.
