Megan Fox has responded to the backlash she received after asking fans to donate money to her friend’s GoFundMe page.
On Thursday, July 27, Fox, who is 37 years old, took to social media to explain her decision to promote a crowdfunding page for her friend Brittney Boyce's father, despite not making a public donation herself. In a message on her Instagram Stories, the actress addressed her followers, referring to them as "weirdos," and asked if they had the emotional intelligence to consider that perhaps Brittney preferred not to have her celebrity clients donate large sums of money directly to her. Fox stated that this would create a dynamic in their working relationships that made her uncomfortable. Instead, Brittney asked Fox to share the gofundme link so that many people could donate smaller amounts of money to help reach their goal.
In her extensive statement, Fox expressed disdain towards those who doubted her support for Boyce, a nail artist who arranged a fundraiser to assist her father with his medical bills.
"I simply fulfilled her request," she added. "If she requires anything from me on a personal level, she will ask privately and I will happily provide it. Accusing me of being stingy or lacking generosity is baseless. Therefore, feel free to attempt your nonsense again on another occasion (probably tomorrow!) with a different group of crazy individuals."
On Monday, July 24, Fox posted on Instagram a screenshot of the GoFundMe page, urging people to contribute if they were able to. Currently, the GoFundMe has raised $8,350, but is still quite far from reaching its $60,000 goal.
Fox has a history of responding to criticism on her platform, and recently she preemptively addressed trolls who might have tried to critique her choice to wear a sheer Jean Paul Gaultier dress.
"Don't get upset and start typing angrily, but just to clarify, those visible pasties underneath my gown are not my nipples," she reassured her Instagram followers on Tuesday, July 25. "Rest assured, they are safely and completely concealed under nipple covers. So, no need to worry; we will all continue living without any disruptions in the space-time continuum."
In addition to shutting out negative comments online, Fox openly acknowledges that she is her harshest critic.
In May, she candidly discussed her ongoing battle with her body image. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, she admitted, "I never perceive myself the way others do. There has never been a moment in my life where I truly cherished my body, not even once."
Reflecting on her early years, Fox revealed that she became "conscious" of her body from a young age. "It wasn't influenced by my surroundings because I grew up in a deeply religious environment where bodies were hardly even acknowledged," she shared. "I believe that my journey towards self-acceptance will be an ongoing one."
