Rebel Moon Part 1 cast & characters
In Rebel Moon’s ensemble cast, we have a full breakdown of all the main players.
According to the official synopsis, a peaceful settlement on a moon in the farthest reaches of the universe faces a threat from the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. Kora, a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, emerges as their best hope for survival.
Sofia Boutella: Kora
Charged with the task of locating skilled combatants willing to join her in standing against the impossible odds of the Motherworld, Kora gathers a small group of fighters — outcasts, rebels, commoners, and war orphans from various worlds who all share a shared desire for redemption and vengeance. As the looming threat of an entire Realm descends upon the most unlikely of moons, a new force of heroes is forged.
Sofia Boutella portrays Kora, an enigmatic figure with a hidden history, who is embraced by a humble agricultural society following her spacecraft's emergency landing on the moon of Veldt. She harbors extraordinary combat prowess, a talent she conceals until the forces of the Motherworld jeopardize her village with utter destruction.
During a conversation with Netflix, she expressed, "There are certain aspects of Kora's experience that I may never fully grasp, but others I can completely relate to - such as leaving your homeland, adapting to a new environment, and feeling like you don't quite fit in. That's her journey, and it resonates with mine as well."
Boutella's acting credits include Kingsman: The Secret Service, The Mummy, Climax, and she is set to appear in the film Argylle next year.
Michiel Huisman: Gunnar
Netflix
Michiel Huisman portrays Gunnar, a skilled yet inexperienced farmer tasked with Kora to scour the galaxy for warriors who will aid in protecting his only home from the invading forces of the Motherworld. Rebel Moon was described by the actor as the most intricate script he had ever received. "Gunnar," he explained, "initially makes the error of thinking there is a way to negotiate with this malevolent force, and spends the rest of the film attempting to make amends for his mistake."
Huisman is best known for his roles in Game of Thrones as Daario Naharis and The Age of Adaline, as well as turns in The Flight Attendant and The Haunting of Hill House.
Djimon Hounsou: Titus
Netflix
Djimon Hounsou plays Titus, a “general who once fought for the regime before he turned his forces against the Motherworld.”
The actor was deeply touched by the character’s narrative. "This film impacted me in a way I've never felt before, both physically and emotionally. I was moved by the story's reflection of the indoctrination in Africa and the ongoing political dynamics in ex-colonies. This narrative speaks volumes, and it was truly gratifying to portray a character like Titus," he expressed.
Hounsou is a two-time Oscar-nominated actor, praised for his roles in Blood Diamond and Amistad, and has also appeared in Gladiator, Guardians of the Galaxy, Furious 7, and Gran Turismo.
Charlie Hunnam: Kai
Netflix
Charlie Hunnam portrays Kai, an opportunist with an abundance of roguish charm who pilots a Tawau-class freighter for Kora and Gunnar as they seek out warriors. Originally reading for a different role, Hunnam explains that Kai's initial attraction to Kora is both physical and spiritual, but his motivation is complex and evolves over time.
Hunnam is best known for starring in Sons of Anarchy, as well as Pacific Rim, The Gentlemen, and The Lost City of Z.
Staz Nair: Tarak
Netflix
Staz Nair plays Tarak, the first recruit to join Kora and Gunnar in their fight against the world.
As a dedicated fan of Zack's, my reaction to getting the job was a mix of laughter and tears. I even let out a strange Viking-like scream out of sheer joy. I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to step into this role with both enthusiasm and the perspective of a fan. It's truly the most exciting opportunity of my life," Nair shared.
In addition to his role as Qhono in the final seasons of Game of Thrones, Nair has also appeared in Humans, Krypton, and Supergirl.
Doona Bae: Nemesis
Netflix
Doona Bae portrays Nemesis, a skilled swordsmith wielding lightsabre-inspired weapons. The actress depicted her character as a "stoic and formidable warrior... she is a woman of few words and her mind remains inscrutable. Yet she is also a guardian and a grieving mother with a deeply compassionate heart."
Doona has also starred in Barking Dogs Never Bite, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, The Host, and Cloud Atlas.
Ray Fisher: Darrian Bloodaxe
Netflix
Ray Fisher plays Darrian Bloodaxe, who leads an army of insurgents alongside his sister.

Fisher is best known for his role as Cyborg in the DCEU and has also appeared in True Detective and Women of the Movement.
Cleopatra Coleman: Devra Bloodaxe
Netflix
Cleopatra Coleman portrays Devra Bloodaxe, the sibling of Darrian and a co-leader of the rebels, all of whom are being pursued by the Motherworld for their acts of treason and rebellion.
Despite sharing leadership responsibilities, Coleman views Devra as the true leader, describing her as "the brains behind the operation, with Darrian providing the muscle. While Darrian may act impulsively, Devra approaches situations like a politician, carefully considering every angle and its impact on the entire group before making a move."
Coleman has also starred in Infinity Pool, The Last Man on Earth, White Famous, and Dopesick.
E. Duffy: Millius
Netflix
E. Duffy plays Millius, a Bloodaxe soldier who joins Kora and Gunnar’s team.
The star remained secretive about their character's arc in Part Two but expressed Milius' eternal sense of truth and finding purpose in Rebel Moon. This film marks Duffy's debut in a feature-length movie after appearing in five short films including Acid Noir and Sleepyhead.
Anthony Hopkins: Jimmy
Netflix
Anthony Hopkins portrays Jimmy, a timeless android warrior originally designed to safeguard the king. Now reactivated in the era of the Imperium, he finds himself compelled to engage in combat once again.
Snyder expressed, “Anthony is truly one of the most remarkable actors of all time. It was truly a privilege and a blessing to have him join the cast for this film.”
Hopkins is an Oscar-winning legend, known for his performances in Silence of the Lambs, The Father, Westworld, and the MCU as Odin.
Ed Skrein: Atticus Noble
Netflix
Ed Skrein plays Atticus Noble, a brutal Motherworld admiral tasked with quashing insurgencies around the known galaxy.
Skrein was so thrilled with his role as the character that he fears he won't be able to find another antagonist role that can compare. "Usually villains are just there to support the hero and have a minimal backstory. But when I read the script, I thought it was amazing... where will I find another one that is as well-developed as this one?" he shared with Discussing Film. Skrein replaced Huisman as Daario in Game of Thrones Season 3 and has also appeared in Deadpool, The Transporter: Refueled, Alita: Battle Angel, and All the Light We Cannot See.
