This feature has been available for some time now, and Epic Games constantly strives to enhance gameplay through regular quality-of-life updates.

The ability to set preferred item slots has proven to be especially helpful for controller players, who often face challenges while navigating certain menus. Epic has now introduced another feature to further enhance inventory organization for controller players. With the release of update v26.30, Fortnite now offers the Quick Weapons beta feature, which allows users to customize their Item Wheel for quick access. This new feature, when combined with the preferred item slots mechanic, streamlines menu navigation for players.

How To Set Up Preferred Item Slots

The Preferred Item Slots option is hidden deep within the Settings menu, making it difficult for users to discover its existence.

Users can locate the Preferred Item Slots option by accessing the Settings menu and navigating to the Game tab, which is the second tab on the left. Within the Combat section, the Preferred Item Slots option can be found as the fifth option.

To personalize the inventory slots, players can choose the Configure option. This enables them to allocate specific inventory slots for preferred weapons or item types, ensuring that when they pick them up, they automatically occupy the designated slot.

Those who have activated the Auto-Sort Consumables to Right option will be pleased to discover that it will remain functional even after assigning Preferred Item Slots. In the event that there is available space in the player's inventory, acquiring a weapon of higher rarity will prompt it to slot into the appropriate position while relocating a lower rarity weapon elsewhere.

Preferred Item Slot Options

There are five loadout slots available in the Preferred Item Slots menu. Players have the option to either leave them unassigned or assign them to different weapon types such as Assault Rifle, Shotgun, SMG, Pistol, Sniper, Bow, Projectile Launcher, Utility slot, or Consumable Item slot. It is also possible for players to reset these preferences or completely deactivate the Preferred Item Slots feature whenever they desire.
