Chamber of Strategy: Turn 1Chamber of Strategy: Turn 2
In the Wyrmway, players of Baldur's Gate 3 must conquer a series of trials to enlist the dragon Ansur in their battle against the Absolute. One trial stands out as potentially shorter than the others, provided players possess the necessary knowledge: the Chamber of Strategy.
To overcome the Chamber of Strategy, players need not rely on special spells or combat expertise. Instead, they must engage in two rounds of Chess and secure a checkmate. Though the Chess puzzle in BG3 features life-size pieces, the rules of the game remain unchanged. Refer to this guide to discover the precise moves to execute on the first and second turns in order to successfully navigate the Chamber of Strategy.
Chamber of Strategy: Turn 1
Upon entering the Chamber of Strategy, players are faced with a challenge: checkmate the Purple King in just two moves. Taking control of the White pieces, which are already strategically placed on the board, the game appears to be in progress.
The opponent's king is positioned in the back right corner, safeguarded by two pawns and a rook on its left. However, players have their queen positioned on the opposite side of the board. The queen possesses the ability to move in any straight or diagonal direction without limitations. By clicking on the queen and selecting the pawn located on the furthest right side of the board, positioned two spaces in front of the king, the queen will make a move to capture the pawn. Consequently, the enemy's king will shift to the left to seek protection behind another adjacent pawn.
Chamber of Strategy: Turn 2
In Turn 2 of the Chess puzzle in the Chamber of Strategy, players once again must utilize their Queen. Positioned in the middle of the board, there is a lone White Bishop ready to capture the Pawn in front of the King, following its recent move. However, it is notable that this Bishop will remain stationary, solely serving as an additional safeguard.
To proceed, select the Queen and move it in a diagonal manner to capture the Pawn directly in front of the Purple King. Consequently, the opponent is left with no other option but to evade the threat by capturing the Queen with their own King. Yet, this action places their King directly in the trajectory of the player's Bishop.
Moving the Queen to capture both Pawns is the most straightforward solution to the BG3 Chess puzzle, resulting in a checkmate and automatic completion of the Challenge. While there may be other possible strategies to achieve checkmate in this scenario, this approach is the simplest. Baldur's Gate 3 is currently accessible on PC and PlayStation 5, with an Xbox Series X/S version currently being developed.
