Fortnite, a free-to-play game, offers a cross-platform gaming experience. A notable debate has always existed between players who prefer controllers and those who opt for keyboards and mice. Keyboard and mouse users have traditionally enjoyed the advantage of quick weapon selection. However, Epic Games has introduced a new feature in update v26.30 that enables controller players to swiftly select weapons as well. This article details the addition of the Quick Weapon action to Fortnite and provides instructions on how players can activate and utilize this beta setting to test it out for themselves.
How the Quick Weapon Action Works
When activated, the Quick Weapon feature introduces an Item Wheel to Fortnite, providing players with effortless capability to swiftly alternate between their currently equipped weapon and other weapons, tools, or items. This functionality is exclusively available for gamers utilizing a controller, as users who opt for a keyboard or touch screen interface can seamlessly switch between weapons without the need to scroll through their inventory slots.

Rather than continuously pressing the Next Weapon or Previous Weapon buttons to switch, users can easily access the Item Wheel by pressing and holding the Primary Weapon button. From there, they can choose from the various available item slot options to swiftly switch between them. In the Settings, players have the option to customize and toggle the behavior of this function according to their preferences.
How to Enable and Toggle the Quick Weapon Action
To enable the experimental Quick Weapon feature, players should navigate to the Settings menu, go to the Controller Options tab, and select the Enable option under the Quick Weapon section. This will disable the Next Weapon button and replace it with the Quick Weapon option.
Players can also set a Diamond Delay, which determines the duration the Quick Weapon button should be pressed for the Item Wheel to show up on the screen. It is worth noting that the Quick Weapon function will still work even if the Item Wheel is not displayed in the user interface, allowing players to completely disable this visual aid if desired. Assigning preferred item slots in the Settings further enhances the usability of this feature.
Fans have the option to customize the function according to their preference. They can choose for the Quick Weapon button to toggle between their two first slots, toggle between the primary weapon (first slot) and their previously equipped item, or disable it altogether for manual operation. Fortnite can be accessed on various platforms including Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
