Mark Ballas is sharing his experience of his wife, BC Jean's miscarriage that occurred last year. In an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday, October 31, he expressed how this particular sadness was incredibly devastating for them both, but they came to realize that it is a more common experience than they initially thought.
The Dancing With the Stars alum, aged 37, and Jean, aged 36, shared earlier this year that she had experienced a miscarriage in the past. The couple, who got married in November 2016, is currently expecting their rainbow baby.
"As we approach the arrival of our little one, I can't help but remember the one we lost a year ago," he stated. "Just a few days before the last season of DWTS began, we discovered that we were going to become parents. I felt a surge of new energy, excitement, and creativity, but during one of our check-ups, we received the heartbreaking news that our baby's heartbeat had stopped."
Ballas emerged victorious in the previous season of DWTS, clinching the mirrorball trophy alongside his partner, Charli D’Amelio. In remembrance of the late judge, the trophy has been renamed as the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy. Despite the challenges of rehearsals and choreographing routines, Ballas emphasized the importance of carrying on with the show.
In week 9 of season 31, Ballas and D’Amelio achieved a flawless score with their mesmerizing Viennese waltz. Praising their performance, Bruno Toniloli hailed it as the finest Viennese waltz witnessed throughout the show's 31 seasons.

Reflecting on the Viennese Waltz, Ballas expressed that it provided a means for him to convey the overwhelming emotions they had experienced. The act of releasing a balloon at the start, accompanied by the creation of a rainbow through their movement and synchronized spinning, symbolized the tumultuous weeks they had endured, feeling trapped in a whirlwind.
After winning, Ballas retired from DWTS and spoke highly of Jean's incredible strength throughout the entire experience, which he will always remember and continue to be amazed by. As partners in their music band Alexander Jean, they collaborated on a song titled "Rainbow."
He expressed that the single is meant for individuals who have gone through similar experiences or any type of loss, with the intention of providing a sense of solace and a comforting environment to mourn. The Instagram video features snippets of "Rainbow" playing in the background, while showing touching moments of the duo holding hands and capturing highlights from Ballas' dance alongside D'Amelio.
