Unstoppable and irresistible, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is not to be underestimated. It's a holiday hit that continues to captivate and enchant listeners every year.
After Halloween, Carey, 54, takes over the airwaves with her 1994 holiday hit as she bids farewell to the holiday. According to Billboard, the Holiday 100 - which ranks the top seasonal songs of all time - has made a return to the charts menu. Launched in 2011, the chart has seen Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You" hold the top spot for 58 out of the chart's 63 total weeks since its debut.
Other songs that have secured the top spot on the Holiday 100 include: Justin Bieber's "Mistletoe" for a single week in the 2011-12 season; Pentatonix's "Little Drummer Boy" at No. 1 for one week in 2013-14, and "Mary Did You Know?" for two weeks in the 2014-15 season; and Ariana Grande's "Santa Tell Me" for a single week in the 2014-15 holiday rush.
Carey's Christmas classic has a strong chance of reaching the top of the Hot 100. It recently jumped 13 spots to No. 4 on the chart, cracking the Top 5 for the week of December 2. Other top songs on the chart include Jack Harlow’s “Lovin on Me” at No. 1, Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer,” and Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red.” “Rockin’’ Around The Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee re-entered the Hot 100 at No. 8, making it the only other holiday song in the Top 10.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” has been a huge commercial success for Carey. Initially not eligible for the Hot 100 due to not being commercially released as a single in a physical format, the rules have since changed and it was allowed to place on Billboard’s main chart. In 2019, the song reached the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 for the first time, 25 years after its release.
The success continued into 2020, with "All I Want For Christmas Is You" reaching the top of the chart in the first week of 2021. It remained at No. 1 at the end of 2021 and at the beginning of 2022, holding the top spot for two weeks in January and the final three weeks of December.

Mariah Carey's 1994 album, Merry Christmas, is where the song originated. She admitted to Billboard in 2017 that she initially thought it was too soon in her career to release a Christmas album, but ultimately decided to do it. Teaming up with producer Walter Afanasieff, Carey wrote the hit song and has since embraced her title as the "Queen of Christmas." In an interview with Billboard, Carey expressed amazement at the song's increasing popularity each year and gratitude that people still have a strong connection to it. She is pleased to hear from fans that the song has become a meaningful part of their lives.
