Mariah Carey is finally back in the studio, after a five-year hiatus from releasing new music. The eagerly awaiting Lambily can rejoice because the Grammy winner is currently recording fresh tracks.
"I have approximately 10 songs as my writing partner and I indulged in continuous songwriting," revealed Carey, 54, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Monday, November 6. "It has been an enjoyable experience, as I realized that we are unintentionally creating a new album."
Following the release of her previous studio album, Caution, in 2018, Carey joined forces with Latto for the remix of "Big Energy" featuring DJ Khaled last year. Currently, her primary focus lies on her upcoming Merry Christmas One and All Tour, commencing on Wednesday, November 15, in Highland, California.
"I am incredibly thrilled to be able to connect with my fans and embark on this journey together," expressed the renowned "Queen of Christmas." "As the chilly weather approaches, there will be a delightful blend of festive songs and my timeless hits showcased throughout the show."
"We kick off with the iconic "[Dance of the] Sugar Plum Fairy" [from The Nutcracker], and delve into a captivating medley of festive hymns, popular holiday tunes, and even a few of my own cherished songs that haven't graced the stage in quite some time," she elaborated.
The spectacle will encompass the timeless melodies from Carey's critically acclaimed Merry Christmas album, a record that has achieved eight times platinum status, highlighted by the beloved 1994 masterpiece, "All I Want for Christmas Is You."
Carey's twins, Moroccan and Monroe, who are 12 years old and whom she shares with her ex-husband Nick Cannon, are set to accompany her on her tour and join her on stage.
"They will be traveling with me across the country and showcasing their talents. I am thrilled to see them in action," she expressed.
Earlier this month, Moroccan and Monroe accompanied their mother as she partook in her annual tradition of unveiling the start of the holiday season in a mesmerizing manner.
In a delightfully imaginative Instagram video, Carey found herself imprisoned in a time vault, which promptly unsealed at the stroke of midnight on Wednesday, November 1. As the vault swung open, it unveiled Carey encased in an ice block. With a grand entrance, she emerged from the ice, donning a vibrant red Christmas jumpsuit, and belted out, "It's time!" in her signature high-pitched voice.
As "All I Want for Christmas Is You" filled the air, she danced and played in the snow, accompanied by her twins. Her children had previously joined her in the 2020 Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special and the 2021 Mariah's Christmas: The Magic Continues on Apple TV+.
Carey is currently enchanting audiences with 16 shows on her Merry Christmas One and All Tour, culminating on Sunday, December 17 in New York City. Afterward, she plans to celebrate the holiday season in Colorado.
"I'll be spending Christmas in Aspen with my kids and friends," shared the singer of "We Belong Together". Carey delights in indulging her children during the holiday season and understands that each year she must spend more to fulfill their extensive wish lists.
"Everything nowadays seems to revolve around technology, so it's not exactly affordable," Carey expressed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. "Not that I want it to be cheap, but I do want them to have plenty of presents to unwrap. However, it's the more expensive ones that truly capture their excitement and interest."
Carey mentioned that she anticipates a notable visitor who will assist her in distributing the presents.
"Santa will be joining us too. I know it sounds unbelievable, but it's true," she affirmed. "He's a dear friend of mine, and he'll be paying a visit."
