The latest Pokemon GO event, called Water Festival: Beach Week, is making a splash with its oceanic theme. Players can expect to catch a variety of sea-themed Pokemon and exciting new additions to the game. This event comes on the heels of the Rising Shadows event, which offered players the chance to capture Shadow Pokemon, including the formidable Mewtwo Shadow Raid. Niantic is shifting gears and brightening things up with this new summery event.

Niantic recently made an official announcement regarding the event, including all the necessary details on their official Pokemon GO website and various social media platforms. Collectors will be thrilled to know that two new Gen 7 Pokemon, Sandygast and Palossand, will be making their debut and appearing regularly throughout the event. This marks one of the first introductions of new Gen 7 Pokemon since the recent Rising Heroes event. In celebration of the arrival of Sandygast and Palossand, a new Sandygast hat will also be available for players to wear, adding a cute and quirky touch to those who have Sandygast or Palossand as their partners.

Aside from the new Pokemon, the event is also introducing paid timed research that players can complete before June 11 to receive a surfer pose for their avatars. Players with extra Rainy Lure Modules can also save them for this event, as those Modules will last four times longer than usual. Additionally, some regional-exclusive raids, such as a five-star Azelf Raid in the Americas, will be available during the event.

Niantic's recent lack of new content for Pokemon GO has caused frustration among its players. Longtime users feel that the developer has not addressed key issues that have been present for years, and there is a perception of stagnation in new content. The change in the function of Remote Raid Passes, which many players do not consider as good as it was during the COVID era, has contributed to a negative reputation for both the game and the company. Adding a few new Pokemon and a paid surfer pose may not be sufficient to improve the situation, but only time will tell.
