The Marvels had originally planned to introduce a well-known actor as a big Marvel hero who then dies abruptly.
The Spy Kids series already utilized the concept of casting a well-known name only to quickly eliminate the character, as exemplified by Elijah Wood's cameo.
However, despite abandoning this idea, The Marvels continues to strive for a light-hearted and comedic tone, with the director's choice aligning with the film's already amusing atmosphere.
The Marvels seemed to have briefly embraced its playful side before shifting its creative direction. The film seems to fully embrace the comedic elements, but there was a moment early on that may have transitioned from being lightheartedly funny to downright absurd.
As a sequel to five different Marvel projects, The Marvels could be seen as a prerequisite that might intimidate those solely seeking an entertaining movie. However, this perception may be misleading, as this upcoming feature seems poised to finally provide Marvel fans with a more humorous comedy similar to beloved films like Thor: Ragnarok. In line with this, a recent rumor suggests that a deleted scene from the movie was intended to introduce an exciting cameo, only to abruptly conclude it in a hilariously unexpected manner.
Prominent industry insider MyTimeToShineHello recently shared an interesting revelation on Twitter about a deleted scene from The Marvels. According to her, there were plans to cast a well-known actor, like Clive Owen or George Clooney, to portray a prominent Marvel hero from the comics. This character was intended to play a significant role in the movie but meet their demise at the end of the first act. However, this idea was ultimately abandoned. Just take a moment to imagine how that scenario would have unfolded.
The notion of introducing someone like Clooney into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, only to have him unexpectedly and unceremoniously killed off, is truly amusing. While this concept is undeniably hilarious, it's not the first time a similar approach has been taken. In one of the Spy Kids movies, for instance, Elijah Wood made a cameo appearance as a heroic character, only to be swiftly dispatched by a security system. This intriguing choice serves as quite an inspiration.
The Marvels features Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. The trio embarks on a mission to find a solution when their powers become intertwined. Whenever any of them use their light-based abilities, a spontaneous switch takes place among the three, regardless of their location. This premise appears to lean towards a comedic tone rather than a suspenseful one. Director Nia DaCosta's disregard for a celebrity death cameo may reflect the film's light-hearted atmosphere. Nonetheless, it would have been intriguing to witness Clooney joining the MCU and achieving Harrison Ford's desire to swiftly become Han Solo. With the potential to break records, why not establish another one for the quickest superhero demise?
The Marvels is set to release theatrically on November 10th, 2023.
