After dropping "So Sick of Dreaming" from her upcoming album, Don't Forget Me, the 28-year-old singer shared the story behind the "sassy" voice note heard in the bridge.

She wrote in a newsletter on Wednesday, March 20 that she enjoyed creating the sassy, camp-y narrator. She mentioned feeling a Clueless and Shania Twain vibe that she couldn't resist.

Rogers shared that the voicemail was initially meant as an instrumental placeholder. However, after laughing so much with her producer while listening to it, they decided to keep it in. She believes that the joy she had while recording it is evident in the final product.

In the recording, Rogers recounts a disappointing date where her date canceled last minute to attend a Knicks game instead of their reservation. She ended up taking her steaks to go, enjoyed two martinis at the bar, and met up with friends nearby. She jokingly refers to her date as a "loser" and mentions that the Knicks ended up losing the game.

Some listeners noted similarities between Rogers' latest track and Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," a popular song from the 2010s. Swift, who is now 34 years old, recently re-recorded the song for her album Red (Taylor's Version) in 2021.
