Lupita Nyongo has gone public with her pain.
The Oscar-winning actress posted a lengthy note Thursday on her verified Instagram account in which she revealed the end of a relationship.
"There are far more significant events unfolding in the world presently, and I extend my heartfelt sympathy to those who are enduring immense hardship," the author states. "However, it is imperative for me to disclose a personal truth and publicly disassociate myself from an individual I can no longer have faith in."
Nyongo continues, expressing, "I am currently grappling with overwhelming sorrow due to a love that was abruptly and profoundly shattered by deceit."
"I am tempted to flee into the shadows and conceal myself, only resurfacing in the light once I have mustered enough strength to declare that my life is better off this way," she penned. "However, I am reminded that the intensity of the anguish I am experiencing is directly proportional to the depth of my capacity to love. Therefore, I am opting to confront this pain head-on, nurturing the bravery to accept my life exactly as it is, and having faith that this difficult phase shall also pass."
Although she did not explicitly mention any names, Nyongo has recently been romantically linked to television host and sports commentator Selema Masekela. The couple initially made their relationship public through social media in December 2022.
CNN has reached out to a Masekelas representative for comment.
Nyongo received support from some of her famous friends after her announcement.
Filmmaker Ava DuVernay commented, "We elevate you with love and unity. Your blessings are everywhere. Let us acknowledge them with certainty and trust. xo."
Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter, who collaborated with Nyongo on the "Black Panther" movies, also left a message.
"I love you Lupita," Carter wrote. "Whenever there is pain lean on your supportive friends. It doesnt erase it. But Im am here to soothe your heart."
