Joe Biden's Unbreakable Bond: How the Support of His Siblings Became His Greatest Strength

President Joe Biden shared that his siblings provided invaluable support following the tragic loss of his first wife, Neilia Biden, and their infant daughter, Naomi. Reflecting on this difficult period during an episode of the "On Purpose With Jay Shetty" podcast on Monday, July 31, the 80-year-old President expressed his gratitude for having a close-knit family by his side.

The commander in chief disclosed that his sister, Valerie Biden, along with his brothers, Jim and Frank Biden, swiftly sprang into action to support Joe and his sons after a tragic incident in December 1972. Sadly, Neilia, 30, and Naomi, 13 months, were fatally struck by a tractor-trailer while driving. Thankfully, their two young sons, Beau and Hunter Biden, who were 4 and 3 years old respectively, managed to survive the accident.

Upon returning from the hospital, my sister and her husband had already relinquished their apartment and settled in, assisting me in raising my children, shared Joe Biden, the President of the United States.

One of his siblings also stood out in his memory, as they had transformed the barn loft into their own living space in order to lend a helping hand to Joe, who was raising his child alone.

"They were my support system," Joe expressed. "My sister and brothers are the most important people in my life. I was truly fortunate."

The former vice president emphasized the significance of assisting individuals in need. Joe also stressed that it truly makes a difference to extend a helping hand to those facing challenges.

Having endured personal heartbreak, including the loss of his son Hunter in 2015 at the age of 46 after battling brain cancer, Joe has become a trusted and compassionate figure for many of his constituents throughout his tenure.

He mentioned during the podcast that during his time as a senator in Delaware, he would frequently attend funerals or memorials across the state. Joe reminisced, "At the church, people would approach me and embrace me, seeking solace in the knowledge that I understood their pain. Reaching out may not always be effortless, but it holds immense significance."

In addition, Joe emphasized that he continues to seek guidance from his siblings in other parts of the episode. Since the devastating accident, the president has further nurtured his family by marrying his second wife, Jill Biden, in 1977. Jill, 72, and Joe are the proud parents of daughter Ashley Biden, who was born in 1981. Additionally, the politician has seven grandchildren.

On Monday, Joe exclaimed, "My wife is not just my best friend, but also the one who has played a significant role in my success. I also turn to my sister, Valerie, and brother, Jim, for constant support."
