Niantic has introduced several new features that will revolutionize the functionality of PokeStops in Pokemon GO. These features are currently undergoing testing in a specific region and are expected to be rolled out globally in the near future.
The Pokemon GO community has been eagerly awaiting fresh additions to the game. Recent controversies surrounding the perceived lack of effort from the developers have led to a decline in player engagement and a decrease in revenue for Pokemon GO. However, Niantic's latest announcement of innovative features aimed at enhancing player interaction with PokeStops indicates a promising step forward.
The new addition being tested in New Zealand is PokeStop Showcases, a feature that allows trainers to display Pokemon with special attributes such as size and weight in exchange for prizes. This feature, along with the recent expansion of compatibility with Pokemon Home to include Scarlet & Violet, provides multiple incentives for players to return to the game.
The Pokemon GO community in New Zealand has already provided insights into how this feature operates. Showcases will occasionally appear at different PokeStops for a limited time and will request a specific Pokemon with a specific attribute. For instance, the current beta testing in New Zealand requires the largest Fomantis. Players near the PokeStop can submit their Fomantis, and the player with the largest one by the end of the Showcase receives a reward. This introduces an intriguing additional benefit to XXL and XXS Pokemon. A player on Pokemon GO's subreddit shared that their reward consisted of 2700 Stardust, 1 Incense, and 3 Ultra Balls, although it is likely that the reward may vary.
Route Creation, another highly anticipated feature of Pokemon GO, may soon be fully launched. Although details are scarce and it is not currently part of the beta test in New Zealand, fans are eagerly awaiting its release. This feature will serve as a valuable tool, motivating players to discover unique walking paths in their local communities that can be shared with others. The introduction of Route Creation, along with the previously mentioned Buddy Adventure feature, has the potential to revitalize the app and reignite the interest of players who feel the game has stagnated. Pokemon GO is currently accessible on mobile devices.
