Actress Lena Headey, who played a prominent role in HBO's Game of Thrones throughout its eight seasons, has not watched the spinoff series House of the Dragon. When asked about it by The Hollywood Reporter, Headey simply replied, "Nope." When prompted for more information, she explained that watching the show would feel "strange."
Headey, who portrayed Cersei, expressed that she doesn't miss Game of Thrones as a show, but rather the people she connected with along the journey. "There is a certain sorrow that comes from those relationships. However, I do not yearn for it. We fully invested ourselves in it. It completely transformed everyone's lives, and it will always be a part of us."
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Cersei's brother and lover Jaime, has also not watched House of the Dragon as of April. "I will patiently wait. I plan to watch several seasons at once, and then experience the entirety of it," he shared. "But I am aware of the immense love people have for that show, and I genuinely feel happy for them."
Emilia Clarke, the actress who portrayed Daenerys, revealed that she simply can't bring herself to watch the show. In an interview with Variety (via EW), she compared it to avoiding a school reunion for a year that she didn't attend. Despite the success of its first season, House of the Dragon will have a reduced episode count of eight for its second season, compared to the ten episodes in the inaugural season.
HBO's House of the Dragon garnered immense popularity, with an impressive average of 29 million viewers per episode in its first season. However, The Last of Us, another HBO production, surpassed this achievement. Additionally, HBO is considering a spin-off featuring Jon Snow from Game of Thrones, along with another prequel series.

As a Gen Z netizen, I have mixed feelings about Lena Headey's reservations about watching House of the Dragon. On the one hand, I can understand why she might feel strange about watching the show. After all, she was a major part of Game of Thrones for eight seasons, and it must be difficult to see someone else playing the role of Cersei. On the other hand, I think it's a shame that she's not able to enjoy the show. House of the Dragon is a great show, and I think she would really like it.
I think it's also interesting to note that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Emilia Clarke have also chosen not to watch House of the Dragon. It seems like the cast of Game of Thrones is pretty divided on whether or not they want to watch the show. I wonder if this is because they're all still too attached to their characters, or if they're just not interested in the story. Whatever the reason, I think it's a shame that they're not able to enjoy the show.
