Laura Dern Can't Wait to Watch 'Real Deal' Taylor Swift Direct Her 1st Feature Film

Laura Dern, 57, shared on TheWrap's "UnWrapped" podcast on Friday, March 29, that she wouldn't be surprised if Taylor Swift, 34, became a successful Hollywood filmmaker. When asked about Swift's potential to pursue a career beyond music, Dern expressed her belief in Swift's ability to excel in the film industry.
"Dern couldn't contain her excitement when asked about Taylor Swift. She praised Swift as a talented filmmaker, which she witnessed firsthand. Dern looks forward to following Swift's filmmaking journey."
The conversation stemmed from their collaboration on the 2022 "Bejeweled" music video. In the video, Swift directed and starred as Cinderella, while Dern portrayed the wicked stepmother. The Haim sisters also appeared as the evil stepsisters in this modern retelling of the classic fairytale.
Dern expressed her willingness to work with Swift again on a podcast, stating that she would happily collaborate with her in the future.
Although Swift has not yet agreed to appear in Dern's new Apple TV+ series Palm Royale, Dern and her production partner Jayme Lemons are open to the possibility of working with Swift on a different project.
Lemons and Dern came up with the idea for a potential TV or movie project called “Jaywalker (Taylor’s Version),” which pays tribute to their production company, Jaywalk Pictures, and Swift’s re-recorded albums.
Although Swift and Dern haven't worked together yet, it was announced in December 2022 that Swift will be directing her first film with Searchlight Pictures. While specific details about the movie, such as the cast, storyline, and release date, have not been disclosed, it has been confirmed that Swift wrote the original script.
