Larian Studios Releases Hotfix 14 Update for Baldur's Gate 3

Larian Studios has rolled out the Hotfix 14 update for Baldur's Gate 3, eliminating nearly a dozen issues in its hit role-playing game. The patch debuted less than a week after Baldur's Gate 3 was treated to its last hotfix on December 8.

Post-Launch Development Efforts

More than one-third of the Hotfix 14 update is dedicated to issues specific to Microsoft's current-generation consoles, with this release thus building on the first Baldur's Gate 3 Xbox Series X/S update that rolled out on December 11.

Specifically, Larian revamped the way cross-save downloads work on Xbox, scraping single-instance downloads in favor of serialized synchronization of smaller packets. Doing so eliminated some crashes that would occasionally occur when the game attempted to synchronize multiple large save files at once, according to the developer.

The initial Xbox cloud sync process has also been revised in the latest patch, as Larian allocated more memory to that process with the goal of improving its overall stability. An obscure error that would sometimes brick a Baldur's Gate 3 instance when the player disconnected their Xbox wireless controller while navigating a virtual keyboard was also addressed in the Hotfix 14 update, its changelog reveals.

Beyond that, the update fixed what turned out to be a rather bizarre issue that could have crashed the game whenever the player was trying to complete a trade in the Underdark. According to Larian's patch notes, this particular problem was caused by the trading NPCs being too close to bibberbangs, the exploding mushrooms that can be found throughout the underground area.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

The new patch ships with 11 fixes for bugs of mostly high severity, such as those that would induce crashes. For example, the update eliminates an issue that would sometimes crash the game when the player attempted to load a save file in Baldur's Gate 3 Honour Mode, as well as another cause of instability associated with the RPG's split-screen multiplayer functionality.
