Lainey Wilson doesn’t anticipate coming back for the last season of Yellowstone.
“I don’t expect it, to be honest. It would surprise me,” said Wilson, 31, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the 2024 CMT Music Awards. “Taylor Sheridan, the creator of the series, has a unique way of wrapping up storylines. I would be surprised if my character returns. We will have to wait and see.”
Wilson's song "Watermelon Moonshine" earned her the Female Video of the Year award at the recent award ceremony. She had previously portrayed musician Abby in four episodes of the popular Paramount series during its fifth season. Wilson shared with us that winning the Grammy for Best Country Album in February left her feeling "humbled."
Reflecting on her achievements, Wilson expressed gratitude for the positive response from both fans and industry peers. She mentioned that her journey towards success has spanned over a decade, and she is eager to leverage this momentum for her upcoming tour. Despite the ongoing pressures, Wilson finds validation in these accolades.
Wilson's recent Grammy win was a high point in a series of successes, including being named Entertainer of the Year at the 2023 Country Music Association Awards and winning Album of the Year for "Bell Bottom Country" at the 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards. Despite these achievements, Wilson shared with Us that her passion for the music industry goes beyond just receiving awards.
"I am incredibly grateful and humbled by the success of 'Bell Bottom Country'," she expressed. "I enjoy writing, performing, and most importantly, connecting with people. That is what truly brings me joy."
Wilson shared at the 2023 CMT Music Awards in April 2023 that despite joining the Yellowstone cast, she would always prioritize her passion for music over acting.
She expressed, "Songwriting will always come first for me because it is what has opened up so many doors for me."
The country superstar appeared on the season 5 premiere episode of the show, titled “One Hundred Years Is Nothing,” where she developed a romance with Ian Bohen’s character, Ryan.
Her role on Yellowstone came about in 2018 after she became friends with Sheridan, who is 53 years old.
Wilson shared with Us that he initially connected with the show creator after he included a few of her songs in the show and invited her to perform at a horse riding competition in Vegas. They quickly became friends and Wilson had a feeling that their friendship would lead to something bigger, although she didn't expect to be a part of the show.
In a later conversation, the show creator reached out to Wilson in February and expressed his desire to create a character specifically for her. He wanted her to showcase her unique style by wearing bell bottoms, singing her own songs, and portraying a musician named Abby.
