Act 1Act 2
Act 3
Endings
Lae'zel is the first companion that players encounter in Baldur's Gate 3. She aids the protagonist throughout the prologue by navigating the nautiloid ship. By assisting her in escaping her captors near the nautiloid ruins, players have the opportunity to permanently recruit her into their party.
Similar to other companions, players can pursue a romantic relationship with Lae'zel in Baldur's Gate 3. However, it can be challenging for a traditionally heroic character to earn her favor due to her specific expectations and beliefs. This guide will provide insight into how to impress Lae'zel and reveal what awaits players who wish to pursue a romance with her.
This guide contains spoilers regarding major plot points. Readers should avoid the Endings section unless they want to know what can happen.
Act 1
The only real hurdle to getting Lae'zel's attention during Act 1 is getting her approval rating up. There are several ways to do this:
When discussing the githyanki, particularly in regards to obtaining their cure, it is advisable for players to align with Lae'zel's viewpoint. In encounters with githyanki, it is advantageous to let her take charge. It is crucial to avoid showing any sympathy towards mind flayers or expressing an interest in their abilities, as she intensely despises them.
During conversations, Lae'zel holds great regard for a protagonist who demands respect and exhibits a relentless disposition towards combat. She harbors disdain for protagonists who display sympathy towards the feeble, but she can tolerate those who safeguard the weak through intimidation or combat.
Lae'zel favors warriors who exhibit no mercy towards defeated enemies during battles. Nevertheless, she doesn't object to conflict resolution through conversation, as long as the protagonist maintains a strong demeanor throughout.
Being straightforward herself, Lae'zel frequently approves of dialogue options that are straightforward and occasionally even mocking.
Lae'zel, like other party members, is open to romancing protagonists of any gender, race, or class.
Once the approval level with Lae'zel is sufficiently high, players can observe her changing demeanor towards the protagonist. On the subsequent free long rest, she will approach the protagonist privately for a physical encounter. Generally, she prefers to be dominant, but players can switch roles by successfully intimidating her with a DC 15 Intimidation check. Nevertheless, this decision holds no significant impact on subsequent events or dialogues.
Act 2
If players maintain Lae'zel's approval, she will unexpectedly confess during an early Act 2 long rest that she has been contemplating the protagonist more than she anticipated. Subsequently, she will demand an immediate one-on-one duel with them.
The outcome of the duel holds no significance. If the protagonist emerges victorious, Lae'zel will recognize their capability in taking care of her. Conversely, if Lae'zel triumphs, she will realize her profound love for the protagonist and refrain from causing them harm. Nonetheless, players have the option to increase their chances of success by acquiring Lae'zel's armor, weapons, and potions before the rest, allowing them to go all out knowing that the long rest will restore any expended spell slots, abilities, and magic items.
In the future, Lae'zel will request a more gentle approach to sharing a bed, and players can persuade her to engage in public displays of affection by successfully passing a Persuasion check.
It's worth noting that although Lae'zel is open to romantic relationships with anyone, she firmly rejects the idea of being involved in polyamory or an open relationship. If players choose to remain with Lae'zel after the duel, she will outright reject any proposition for sharing, and if she discovers the protagonist cheating, their relationship will come to an end.
Act 3
Endings
Lae'zel's romantic encounters are primarily concentrated in the initial acts, however, during a well-deserved rest in the bustling Lower City of Baldur's Gate, she will extend an invitation to the protagonist. Leading them both to a secluded rooftop, she bares her heart and expresses the immense pleasure she derives from spending quality time in the Prime Material Plane alongside her beloved companion.
Lae'zel's pivotal decision revolves around her allegiance: either steadfastly supporting Vlaakith and desiring Orpheus's demise, or aligning herself with Orpheus and joining the rebellion against Vlaakith. Players have the opportunity to steer her towards rebellion after exploring the githyanki crèche and engaging in a profound conversation with Kithrak Voss during a lengthy rest interlude. However, even as late as Act 3, players possess the power to persuade her to return to Vlaakith's camp.
If Lae'zel remains loyal to Vlaakith, she will end her relationship with the protagonist because being a dragon rider for the lich queen and having a lover are incompatible. If Lae'zel chooses Orpheus, her relationship with the protagonist can be included in the final sequence.
If Lae'zel is present in the party when players must decide between freeing Orpheus or assisting the Emperor in assimilating him, she will insist that the party liberate Orpheus. If players align with the Emperor, Lae'zel will object and threaten to fight everyone. Players can avoid this situation by passing a DC 20 Wisdom check, but regardless, Lae'zel will end her relationship with the protagonist. Additionally, if the protagonist becomes a mind flayer, Lae'zel will also terminate the relationship. Although she appreciates the sacrifice, she cannot spend her life with the creature her people despise the most. Lae'zel also cannot be with a partner who chooses to dominate the Absolute rather than destroy it.
Should Orpheus survive until the end, regardless of whether he is a mind flayer or not, he will request Lae'zel's assistance in leading the rebellion against Vlaakith. If the main character is also a githyanki, they have the option to join them in this battle. If the main character is in a romantic relationship with Lae'zel, they can ask her to stay in Baldur's Gate. Regardless of the player's choice, Lae'zel will accept it, whether it means bidding a sorrowful farewell to her lover, venturing into the Astral Sea alongside them, or preparing to combat any of Vlaakith's forces who dare to reveal themselves in Baldur's Gate.
