Last year, she took on the role of creative director for Dolce & Gabbana's spring/summer 2023 collection, which was showcased at Milan Fashion Week in September 2022. The collection, named Ciao, Kim, featured Kardashian's beloved vintage looks from the '90s and early 2000s. Models strutted down the runway in corset dresses, silver dresses, sheer jumpsuits, and more, while a black-and-white video of Kardashian enjoying spaghetti played in the background.
Kardashian expressed the importance of this line during an episode of The Kardashian's, airing on June 1. She shared, "This means a lot to me. It's the first time I have the opportunity to be fully independent and involved in creating a fashion product."
She expressed her ability to understand people's fashion preferences and considered it a positive development, as she previously struggled with dressing herself. Kim Kardashian had relied on the styling expertise of her ex-husband Kanye West for many years. However, her newfound fashion independence brought about anxiety, which was documented in season 2 of The Kardashians. During a May 2022 episode of the Hulu show, the SKKN by Kim founder revealed experiencing panic attacks and uncertainty about her outfit choices. She also mentioned her concerns about wearing something that had not been pre-approved when she won the innovator award for Skims in the Wall Street Journal magazine.

The Dolce & Gabbana collection was a significant success for Kardashian; however, it resulted in strained relations between her and sister Kourtney Kardashian.
In an episode of The Kardashians' third season, Kourtney, aged 44, expressed her disappointment with Kim for organizing a collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana that seemed to draw inspiration from her and husband Travis Barker's wedding in May 2022. Kim defended herself by stating that she made an effort to wait and deliberately avoided selecting items that Kourtney wore during her wedding weekend.
Kourtney stated that the issue was not related to a brand, but rather to her wedding. She expressed feeling unsupported and mentioned a lack of boundaries. Kourtney felt that there was a lack of consideration in not seeking her opinion on the matter, especially since it occurred so close to her wedding.
Although Kim initially maintained that she should not have to seek Kourtney's permission, she ultimately offered an apology.
Before joining Dolce & Gabbana, Kim was chosen as the representative of Balenciaga in February 2022. Prior to appearing in their advertisements, she had been showcasing Balenciaga outfits from head to toe for several months, and became closely associated with the brand's iconic pantaboot.
However, Kim's association with Balenciaga later faced criticism when the company launched a controversial spring/summer 2023 campaign in the autumn of 2022, which featured children posing with BDSM-inspired teddy purses and included printed material related to a ruling on child pornography.
Kim expressed her dismay over the ad on her Instagram in November 2022, emphasizing the utmost importance of prioritizing the safety of children. She firmly stated that any efforts to normalize any form of child abuse should be strictly rejected in our society. Furthermore, during an episode of the "Angie Martinez IRL" podcast in December 2022, she reinforced her opposition to the ad, unequivocally denouncing it.
Balenciaga's creative director, Demna, addressed the matter later that month, expressing his personal apology for the misguided creative decision regarding the gifting campaign involving children. He acknowledged his responsibility and admitted that it was improper for children to endorse objects unrelated to them.
