Kelsea Ballerini is addressing the allegations of lip-syncing during her performance at the 2023 People’s Country Awards. The 30-year-old singer performed her popular song "Mountain With a View" at the event held at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry on Thursday, September 28. While some fans praised her emotional ballad, others raised doubts about the authenticity of her vocals.

"If I were lip-synching, I would have sounded significantly superior," Ballerini playfully hinted on her Instagram Story following the ceremony. "Unfortunately, one of the cameras was not functioning. Thank you and goodnight."

Later on, Ballerini posted a photo of herself backstage, striking a pose and giving the camera a mischievous side glance. She captioned the relaxed picture with, "While singing live and observing others with different opinions."

The inaugural People's Choice Country Awards, which were aired on NBC, garnered criticism online for Kelsea Ballerini's performance. However, the network showed support by giving her a shout-out. A tweet on Thursday read, "@KelseaBallerini's flawless glitch-free performance proves that nobody does live vocals like her!" This year, Ballerini was nominated for four awards including People's Artist, Female Artist, Social Country Artist, and Best Album. However, she did not win any of the awards.

Ballerini made an appearance at the show without her boyfriend Chase Stokes. "He was occupied with rehearsals," she informed E! News on the red carpet. "This was his inaugural visit to the Opry, and it was delightful to give him a tour of my second home. So, although he isn't physically present, he is here in spirit."

Rumors of a romantic relationship between them began circulating in January after they were seen together at the College Football Playoff National Championship in Los Angeles. Following her divorce from Morgan Evans in August 2022, Ballerini revealed that she had reached out to Stokes with the support of her manager.

"I entered those DMs," she disclosed during an episode of the "Call Her Daddy" podcast. "He films [Outer Banks] in Charleston, and my manager resides there. .... He mentioned, 'You know who's really attractive, like, when you're ready? Chase.' I responded, 'You're absolutely right.'"

Ballerini added, "His [Instagram] username is 'hichasestokes' and I simply said, 'Hello Chase Stokes.' ... I have my life together and for me to open up like that to someone is a precious gift. I desire to be with someone who shares the same sentiment about their life. ... I'm all about committed relationships."

They have been in a strong relationship since then, first appearing together on the red carpet at the CMT Music Awards in April. They also attended the Venice Film Festival hosted by Variety and the Golden Globes, both dressed in matching black outfits. In August, during the 2023 MTV VMAs, they wore complementary red outfits while Ballerini performed her popular song "Penthouse" to celebrate her 30th birthday.
