Keira Knightley, known for her role in "Boston Strangler," will be joined by new co-stars Ben Whishaw from "Paddington" and Sarah Lancashire from "Happy Valley" in the upcoming Netflix spy series, "Black Doves." The series, created by Joe Barton, takes place in London during the holiday season and follows Helen Webb (played by Knightley), the wife of a wealthy politician who leads a secret double life as a trained spy. However, Helen's life takes a downward spiral after her lover, Jason, is murdered.
Whishaw will portray Sam Young, an old friend of Helen's who helps her rebuild her life after it falls apart. Yet, Sam also grapples with personal issues that may hinder their mission. Whishaw is well-known for lending his voice to the beloved character Paddington Bear in the film franchise. Furthermore, fans can expect a third installment titled "Paddington in Peru" set to release in 2025. In addition to "Black Doves," Whishaw has also been involved in other projects like Alice Englert's "Bad Behaviour" and Ira Sachs' highly debated romantic drama, "Passages," both slated for release in 2023.
Lancashire has been cast as Reed in the upcoming series Black Doves, where she will portray the leader of the spy organization that Helen works for. Known for her celebrated performance as Sgt. Catherine Cawood in the critically acclaimed Happy Valley, Lancashire has garnered both fan and critical acclaim. Additionally, she recently showcased her impeccable talent and charisma in the first season of HBO's Julia, a series based on the life of renowned chef Julia Child. The comedy drama, which received a successful premiere, is set to return for its second season on HBO this November.
