Katie Maloney Opens Up About Lala Kent Unfollowing Her and Friendship Struggles Post 'Vanderpump Rules'

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Katie Maloney shares insights on her strained relationship with Lala Kent following the end of 'Vanderpump Rules' season 11. Discover why the reality star was taken aback by Lala's decision to unfollow her and how their friendship has faced challenges off-screen.

Katie Maloney was surprised, just like Vanderpump Rules fans, when she learned that Lala Kent had unfollowed her and Ariana Madix on social media.

During a special interview with We, Maloney, 37, shared that she found out about it from a post on Instagram. The interview was conducted alongside Scheana Shay to talk about their partnership with Chili's Grill & Bar.

Maloney was surprised when Kent, 33, publicly ended their friendship, as she thought they had resolved their issues over a year ago. However, during the filming of season 11 of Vanderpump Rules, their friendship took a different direction. Maloney mentioned that they seemed to have disagreements and were not on the same page about many things. She expressed uncertainty about the situation and didn't know how to address it.

Maloney addressed questions regarding the upcoming reunion by stating that viewers may not fully grasp why Kent was so upset with her and Madix during the season. She also shared her thoughts on Kent's recent comments about Madix not contributing enough to the show.

Maloney shared her thoughts with Us, saying that over the years, some cast members have stronger seasons and storylines, while others may take on more secondary roles at times. However, she doesn't completely agree with this perspective.

Vanderpump Rules fans have seen Maloney and Kent go through many highs and lows over the years. They started off on a rough note but eventually built a strong friendship that lasted for several seasons.

In Season 11, their friendship was put to the test when Maloney struggled to forgive Tom Sandoval for cheating on Madix with Rachel ‘Raquel’ Leviss. On the other hand, Kent was more focused on moving past the drama for her own well-being. She ended up forming a closer bond with Shay, 38, who was also contemplating a reconciliation with Sandoval, 41.

During a joint interview, Shay shared that she understands how Lala has been feeling lately. Lala expressed her desire for everyone to be honest at the reunion. She wanted Katie and Shay to be upfront about the things they had discussed with her, whether it was about Ariana, the sandwich shop, or the show. Lala felt like not everyone had been truthful in sharing these things with others.

Shay mentioned that she has remained close to Kent and knows what she is going through. She acknowledged that it can be challenging to navigate this group when there is a significant issue causing tension. Shay empathizes with Lala's perspective and supports her in wanting honesty and transparency within the group.

Earlier this year, Kent hinted at having a falling out with Maloney offscreen before the season 10 reunion, which took place in March 2023. Despite initially resolving their differences, Kent has suggested that their friendship faced more challenges at the season 11 reunion.

During a recent episode of the "Housewives Nightcap" podcast on Thursday, April 11, Kent shared her feelings about the situation. She expressed feeling disgusted and frustrated by the events at the reunion, where she felt like people were denying what had actually happened. Kent revealed that she was so upset that she ended up sobbing uncontrollably.

She continued, "I believe this reunion is going to be a really positive one. It feels like something new and different compared to the past. Personally, it was like a weight off my shoulders. I felt relieved when it was all said and done. I left with a sense of peace, knowing I had been completely honest, even if it didn't go exactly as I hoped. I had nothing to hide and I left no stone unturned on my end."

Who Holds the Top Spot Among the Guys on Vanderpump Rules?

Maloney is looking to move on from the drama and is ready to put it behind her. She expressed to Us, “I think at this point everyone just kind of wants to just move on.”

In an effort to shift her focus, Maloney and Shay collaborated with Chili’s to launch the restaurant’s new take on the Espresso Martini. This version replaces vodka with Reposado tequila.

Maloney shared that she has been substituting vodka for tequila in all her drinks lately because she finds the flavor so enjoyable. She mentioned, "I'm a Reposado girl myself. I think it's just so smooth and the taste of agave and tequila really shines through. It makes for a delicious and smooth cocktail, and considering my history with tequila, it just feels right."

You can catch Vanderpump Rules on Bravo on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET, and it is also available for streaming on Peacock the following day.
